If music is to retain a place in the public library of the future, Librarians passionate about public access, and who value the place of music in their patrons' lives, need to explore new avenues of providing resources. With advances in technology digital music is in a state of constant evolution, and it may be several years before we see a stable solution. There is also the question of the continuing of CD collections. Streaming and downloading audio is a constant presence in our daily lives, and digital formats are finding their way into the library's music collection. Just as for e-books, the introduction of digital music to libraries presents certain challenges and opportunities.
As a branch of the worldwide organisation ,IAML: Australia http://www.iamlaustralia.org.au/ has the expertise to help with these rapid changes. All public librarians, with an interest in music provision in their libraries, are invited to join us for this event which is a prelude to our annual conference which is taking place in Sydney in October.
