Position Summary

Community Engagement Librarian (Children & Youth) 

Fixed Term Part Time (14 hours per week) to 1 February 2019

Do you have a passion for meeting the needs of young people? Are you creative and interested in working in a dynamic, community-focused, technology-driven library environment?

Working as part of a professional and friendly team, this position will work closely with and for young people to ensure that the Library provides an outstanding range of resources, promotional materials, activities, educational programs, entertainment and events suitable for children and youth.

We are looking for an energetic and motivated person who has previous experience in working creatively with children, young people, their carers, and schools.

Key duties include:

  • Planning, delivery, and evaluation of inclusive library programs, outreach, projects and services that address the identified needs and maximise community participation of children and young people (aged 0 – 18) within Hobsons Bay.
  • Implementing projects and programs that maximise the opportunity for safe and effective use of technology and digital tools by children and young people, such as creative technologies, social media, and online collections.
  • Working with relevant staff to ensure print and digital collections for children and young people are reflective of community needs
  • Delivering prompt, efficient and responsive customer service.

Fluency in a community language or Auslan would be an asset.

The successful applicant will need to provide a current Working with Children Check and be required to undergo a National Police Record Check and physical assessment.

The position is based on a 35 hour week, which includes regular evening shifts and reasonable overtime. The successful applicant will be expected to work at all branches.
