About the role

The Information Services & Programs Librarian (ISPL) is responsible for the delivery of effective information and customer services through rostered shifts across all library branches. The position is responsible for the development and delivery of positive interactive programs and activities to engage all members of the community in lifelong learning, digital literacy/technology, reader development and literacy outcomes. 

When rostered the position will act as Officer-in-Charge whilst on the customer service/information desk, dealing with any issues that arise, leading the team and ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of the library service.

The Libraries Team are seeking enthusiastic, qualified individuals to provide excellent information services, engagement and support customers, plan and deliver Library Programs and support reader development, using extensive knowledge of collections, eResources and other library systems.

Skills, experience and other requirements

  • Advanced diploma or degree in Library/Information Management or Information Technology teamed with relevant experience.
  • Considerable skills in planning developing and positively implementing activities and programs for children and adults.
  • Substantial knowledge and experience in the provision of reference material and information services including online and print information.
  • Proven experience and a thorough understanding of technology uses, including social media, eResources, electronic library systems and the internet with a proven ability to troubleshoot issues in a digital environment.
  • Proven, substantial experience providing a high level of customer service excellence in a frontline customer service role.
  • Experience adhering to manual handling principles and expectations.
  • Experience in leading and supporting team members.
  • Relevant prior experience in public libraries.
  • A valid Employee Working with Children Check with the Mornington Peninsula Shire as the employer.
  • Australian Criminal History Check (carried out by the Shire prior to commencement).
  • Applicants must have their own means to travel between the Shire offices all library branches including the Mobile Library as required, within time constraints for working their rostered hours.
