Position Summary

An exciting opportunity exists for a highly motivated, experienced and progressive professional to join Brimbank City Council to lead and manage the Libraries Unit.

This new position has been created following the recent expansion the Community Learning & Participation Department which now has four units: Libraries, Learning, Neighbourhood Houses and Arts & Culture.

The Senior Library Coordinator will work collaboratively with the Department’s three other Senior Unit Coordinators to create an exciting new model of service delivery in Brimbank.

Brimbank Libraries is a high performing library service providing quality services to a diverse community from five public libraries and an online library.

Our libraries provide inclusive and welcoming spaces for people to learn, create, socialise and share ideas and resources. They are progressive and community focussed with a proactive customer service model and a strategic approach to program development.

Brimbank Libraries play a significant role in building Brimbank as a learning community to drive social and economic change.

The successful candidate will join a great team and will:

  • Lead and manage the Libraries Unit
  • Lead evidence based business planning and reporting, representing the library service internally and externally
  • Oversee the strategic development of community focussed library collections, services, programs and systems ensuring best practice
  • Develop strong links with key internal and external stakeholders to continuously improve library services
  • Oversee the  implementation of the Library Strategy 2015-2020

 As a person passionate about public libraries, you:

  • Have substantial experience in leading, motivating and developing staff and diverse teams
  • Are a strategic leader who values and encourages innovation to support better learning outcomes for the community
  • Are experienced in building strategic partnerships with key internal and external stakeholder
  • Have substantial experience at a senior level introducing and leading change in a complex environment
  • Have evidence of strong business acumen
  • Have demonstrated project management skills with the ability to successfully manage multiple projects and deliver them on time and on budget
  • Hold relevant tertiary and/or post graduate qualifications with eligibility for professional membership of the Australian Library and Information Association

Selection Criteria Essential: Do you have a relevant tertiary and/or postgraduate qualifications and eligibility for professional membership of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA)?

Essential: Do you have extensive experience leading strategic planning as well as initiating and delivering practical solutions to local issues?

Essential: Do you have proven project management skills, delivering project outcomes on time and on budget?

Essential: Do you have excellent budget and contract management skills with a track record in attracting funding to deliver projects?

Essential: Do you have experience writing reports and policies?
