A bit about the role
Wyndham Libraries are launching a Pop-Up Library Programs Van to deliver activities and engage with the community in 2022 and beyond. We are looking for an enthusiastic program delivery professional to join our team taking library services around Wyndham.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a brand-new team delivering programs and outreach services from locations across Wyndham. This role will report to the Team Leader Library Community Outreach and work closely with the Programs Teams across the library service.

As a remote library, you will be traveling to scheduled sites across Council. You will deliver programs for all ages and provide support with a small collection of books on board.

Whilst you will primarily work on the Pop-Up Library, this position will be required to alter their regular working hours to support evening and weekend events and programs on an ad-hoc basis. In addition, this position may be required to rotate to other branches in line with operational requirements and may be required to work rostered Saturday morning as part of a regular work pattern.

  • Successful and professional delivery of programs and services based on the local community’s needs and interests
  • Attractively presented and orderly collection and well-maintained vehicle
  • Effective liaison with colleagues, community groups, key stakeholders, and the wider community under the guidance of the Team Leader Library Community Outreach
  • Creation of a space where all members of our diverse community feel welcome

What you’ll bring

  • Diploma of Library and Information Services, or equivalent qualification or substantial experience
  • Experience delivering programs to children and families desirable
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Willingness to learn and a desire to develop your skills
  • A positive, curious and flexible attitude
  • Valid Victorian driver’s licence and confidence in driving a van. Driver training will be offered if required

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in rostered library customer service shifts at library facilities or outreach points and proactively engage with customers to maximise their use of resources, equipment, technology, and online platforms.

  • Support the delivery of early years and school years programs across the library service by developing program plans, lesson plans and Storytime kits, and contributing to the planning and evaluation of the calendar of events

  • Facilitate and deliver a range of early years and primary school years programs across the library service including story time, baby bounce, toddler time, outreach visits, school holiday programs, New Parents Groups and after school programs.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have the following:

  • A Tertiary qualification acceptable for technician membership of the Australian Library and Information Association together with public library experience, or other relevant qualification together with relevant public library and program delivery experience.

  • A passion for storytelling and community engagement, with a customer-centric approach to your work.

This position will be responsible for the supervision and management of Waverley Library’s Programs & Outreach teams. You will lead, manage and supervise the service points of Library public areas on weekdays, weekends and evenings to facilitate the delivery of responsive, high quality, friendly and efficient services relevant to the diverse needs of the community.  You will also be responsible for the implementation of Library plans, processes, procedures and activities and for the development and delivery of a range of community programming. 

You will need Tertiary qualifications in Business, Information Services, Library or equivalent experience, and the ability to work a 7-day roster.  You will also have one to two years’ experience in innovative service delivery and staff supervision, with a proven capacity to lead, develop, train and motivate staff through co-operation, within a Library (or similar) public contact environment.

Skills & Experience 

  • A tertiary qualification in library and information management, early childhood, education, youth work or community development and/or less formal qualification with relevant experience in working with children and youth
  • A current Victorian Driver’s Licence is desirable
  • Proven experience in delivering customer service, primarily in a library, retail, community or hospitality environment.
  • Knowledge and experience in selecting resources, especially focussing on the learning and literacy needs of children and youth, including CALD and inclusive resources.
  • Demonstrated experience in and the ability to develop, facilitate and evaluate inclusive programs and activities for children and youth and their families in a public library, education, arts or community setting.

THE POSITION: The Senior Library Assistant (Heritage) assists with the development and delivery of the Library and Museum & Gallery’s Heritage Services.

In this role the Senior Library Assistant (Heritage) also:

Assists in researching, developing, implementing and evaluating best practice within the specialist Heritage field with the aim of providing, promoting, preserving and managing access to and use of the Library Heritage and Museum & Gallery’s Collections.

The position may be required to work in any of the Libraries which customer service is a priority.

It provides customer service and business support services, managing requests and enquiries from Library customers and other stakeholders to contribute to the efficient provision of a core business service to Council’s customers. The position also collaborates with business units, providing specialist operational support, developing relationships to enhance service delivery and managing key information or systems to facilitate the delivery of business objectives and meet user and customer needs.

The position may also contribute to the delivery of key projects incorporating research, planning, delivery, evaluation and the management and/or co-ordination of Council systems, programs or events, liaising with internal or external stakeholders to achieve successful project, system or program outcomes.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, abilities and/or minimum qualifications necessary to perform the essential functions of the position. 

ESSENTIAL: 

  • Interpersonal and relationship building skills and experience to facilitate interactions with customers and stakeholders for the provision of service delivery
  • Communication skills including oral, written and verbal skills for consulting, collaborating and interacting with customers and to provide professional responses to enquiries, including heritage requests bookings and complaints
  • Skills and experience working within a customer service environment with the ability to achieve a high level of customer satisfaction combined with the ability to respond appropriately to customer requests and meet customer service requirements
  • Organisation and time management skills combined with the ability to work unsupervised, handling competing priorities to adapt to fluctuating workloads and changing priorities
  • Ability to apply initiative and problem solve on issues encountered in day-to-day activities and in the response to customers’ requests and issues to determine and implement an appropriate course of action
  • Skills and experience in administration with the ability to manage and maintain information and library management systems such as customer records or computerised room and program bookings or other library related information
  • Experience in developing and implementing procedures and guidelines related to service delivery may be required
  • Experience in all MS Office applications (Excel, Word), including email and internet as well as databases and point of sales systems
  • Appropriate qualifications and industry experience in a relevant field
  • A current Working with Children Check 

DESIRABLE:

  • Certificate II, III or IV in library and information studies
  • History or museum study qualifications, experience in information research and/or training in heritage collection management and/or archival practices
  • Knowledge of and experience in the Local Government environment
  • Current New South Wales Driver Licence or ability to obtain

SALARY & EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:

  • Permanent part-time position, 28 hours per fortnight. Work hours spanning Monday to Sunday 8am to 9pm.  This include one times evening shift and one weekend day per month.
  • This position is a Grade 3, salary range is $ 59,046 p.a.(pro-rata) with progression to $ 63,586 p.a.(pro-rata) on demonstrated competencies, with performance progression to $ 69167 p.a. (pro-rata).
