About the role:

An opportunity exists for a motivated and experienced Customer Service Officer to join our Library Services Team. Based initially at Castle Hill Library the successful applicant must be willing to work at any of Council's Libraries. This is a great development opportunity for a candidate who has already started on their Library career either through working in a library or undertaking study and is now looking to further their library experience.

Hours:

  • Monday to Friday 7 hours per day as rostered and one weekend (Saturday and Sunday) every 6 weeks

Duties include:

  • Day to day operations in the Library as rostered
  • Process a range of applications, transactions and payments for both Council and Library
  • Resolve customer enquiries and complaints on a range of Library services within agreed guidelines
  • Participate in a range of Library marketing and outreach activities targeting customers from diverse cultures and age groups

About you:

To be considered for this role you will be an experienced customer service officer and will possess:

  1. HSC or equivalent
  2. Current Class C Drivers Licence
  3. Experience in a high volume, fast paced customer focused service environment
  4. Proven experience in the use of technology for service delivery
  5. Experience in dealing with challenging customer interactions
  6. Experience dealing with diverse cultures and age groups

About the opportunity

Blacktown City Libraries has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Librarian to join the team in the delivery of effective customer service.

Reporting to Customer Services Coordinator, you will work as a team member to provide effective customer focused library service to the community, work cooperatively with other Branch Librarians and teams to deliver relevant outreach programs and activities.

You will also be a proficient user of current technologies, and be innovative. 


Qualifications and experience

Essential:

  • Degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent as recognised by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA)
  • Eligible for professional membership of ALIA
  • Previous library experience.

Desirable:

  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in both a team and independently
  • Ability to lead a team
  • Relevant computer skills, including experience in the use of electronic and online resources
  • Availability to work flexible working hours, including evenings and weekends as rostered
  • Experience in library promotional activities
  • Experience supervising staff
  • Experience in cash handling
  • Experience in library relocation and/or refurbishment
  • First aid certification
  • Ability to speak a community language
  • Current Class ‘C’ driver’s licence.

Remuneration and benefits
The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.

  • A competitive salary range of $1,265.50 - $1,417.40 (Grade 8) per week will be offered based on skills, qualifications and experience
  • 35 hour working week
  • Opportunity to participate in Council's flextime arrangement

The Position

The library service is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated person to oversee collections within Spearwood library and assist the Branch Manager – Spearwood in the development and supervision of the branch.

The principle responsibility of the position is to develop collections in accordance with customer demand and expectations and actively promote them to our community through the library website, social media and other means of online engagement.

The successful applicant will have:

  • Recognised tertiary qualifications and eligibility for professional Membership of the Australian Library and Information Association.
  • Developed organisational, communication and time management skills.
  • Sound knowledge of contemporary library practice, especially information retrieval skills, cataloguing, information organisation and criteria for stock selection.
  • Widely read, with a good knowledge of literature at all levels.
  • An understanding of automated library management systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in using social media and other means of online engagement to promote library collections and services and collect customer feedback.

Salary: $76,525- $81,411 per annum depending on skills and experience.
