Role Purpose
The Librarian role is a key role within the Library Services Group. The Librarian provides the technical process knowledge and the advisory subject matter knowledge needed by the various customers of the Library. The successful applicant will be required to coordinate and perform a variety of functions which may include collection management, assisting customers to access collections both in hard copy and electronic formats, leading customer front of house functions and assisting with programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide friendly and efficient customer service in a desk or concierge role
  • Provide high quality reference, information, and referral services to the public
  • Assist customers with accessing services or equipment, connecting their own electronic devices and in locating resources
  • Competently operate the library’s computer equipment and software and other office equipment
  • Understand complementary services offered by other libraries, in particular the State Library NSW
  • Assist in the delivery of programs and events as required
  • Shelve items promptly and accurately; maintain shelves and stock in good order
  • Supervise, motivate and coach library staff, or volunteers as required
  • Operate as an effective member of the library team; planning and organising own work and the work of others to meet deadlines and priorities

Based at the Warnbro Community Library you will provide library services to the community, ensuring all available services are provided to children and young people, and contribute to the efficient operation of the Library as a whole.

To be the successful candidate, you will have experience in a customer focussed environment and are able to communicate effectively with children, youth and their parents. You have demonstrated skills in problem solving and time management and are able to demonstrate these skills along with your ability to use initiative.

You have proven experience in planning, promoting and organising events and programs, particularly with a community focus. You work well in a team environment and are able to establish and maintain positive work relationships with different government authorities, education institutions and individual stakeholders. You have a passion for increasing literacy among children and young people, and for promoting library services and resources to residents.

You possess a tertiary qualification in library services and/or early childhood education. A ‘C’ class driver’s licence and use of own vehicle is essential as in this role you will be required to drive between the City’s libraries.

To be considered for this role, you must address the following selection criteria as part of your online application:

  1. Tertiary qualification in Librarianship/and or Early Childhood Education (eligibility for Associate Membership of Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA)).
  2. Demonstrated initiative and problem solving and time management skills.
  3. Ability to work in a team environment.
  4. Experience in a field of Young People’s Services, library services or early childhood education including planning promoting and implementing community programmes and events.
  5. Knowledge of services to children and youth and the ability to communicate and relate effectively with children, youth and their parents.
  6. Well developed technology skills including audio-visual equipment and proven capacity to operate a variety of computer programs and applications including social media tools.
  7. High level of customer service delivery.

We are offering a gross salary of $74,256 per annum, and:

  • 11% superannuation plus the opportunity to co-contribute up to 5%
  • A variety of health and wellbeing programmes

About the role

The role and position of the Senior Programming & Events Officer is key in ensuring the IWC Library & History Service is a pivotal information, recreation and education provider in the community. This role will assist the Programming team and supervise the Program and Events Officer to organise and promote quality lifelong learning, literacy, cultural and recreation exhibitions, programs and services across the Council’s eight libraries. Moreland City Libraries is a trusted community resource ensuring service provision to our families and young people. Currently, we are seeking a Children’s and Youth Services Librarian to provide high quality customer service, deliver early literacy programs, and provide meaningful engagement with our young people.

Kincumber Library is a well loved fixture in the local community, serving a diverse base of regular library users.  This is an exciting opportunity to deliver high quality library services and innovative programs to meet community needs, as well as drive increased engagement with Council Libraries, making the region a place of lifelong learning.

Shifts may be rostered from Monday to Saturday between 8am and 9pm however the majority of work is between 8.30am and 4.30pm Monday to Friday at Kincumber Library, and 1 Saturday each month at another library branch.

This position is required to provide quality customer service and create value for the community.

Key activities of this role include:

  • Provide the full suite of library services to our customers to meet business, educational, informational and recreational needs of the community;
  • Provide guidance and support to the team to ensure a collaborative and positive approach to the delivery of library operations;
  • Prepare and deliver programs which meet the needs of the diverse community we serve and stimulate interest in, and engagement with, our libraries;
  • Assist patrons in the use of library based technologies including electronic catalogues and other contemporary library resources, as well as their own devices.

About You:

  • You ideally hold a Diploma of Library and Information Services, or related field, or you can demonstrate solid contemporary experience in a similar role combined with ongoing professional development;
  • You are tech savvy with sound experience supporting customers in the use of a range of contemporary technologies and devices;
  • You have a customer centric approach to service delivery, ensuring a positive experience for all customers interacting with the library; 
  • Your positive and collaborative style ensures you inspire great team work; 
  • You enjoy sharing your knowledge and expertise, while also learning from others;
  • Having a work/life balance is important to you.

This role provides a salary range of between $57.6k to $69.2k per annum + 10% superannuation. Penalty rates apply for weekend work.

About the role

In your new role, you will be part of a customer focused team that supports library and information services to Hornsby Shire community by assisting with the provision of efficient and effective information and circulation services.
This is an operational position that relies heavily on teamwork and requires that work be prioritised according to customer need.

The Customer Services Library Assistant position has the following major components:

  • Provision of quality customer services
  • Provision of efficient circulation services
  • Maintenance of collection and facilities
  • Support of library services and programs across the library network

About you

The Customer Services Library Assistant position requires an enthusiastic, customer oriented person who has good communication skills. Current enrolment in an approved course in Library Studies is the minimum qualification for the position. The ability to be an effective member of a team is critical to the success of this role as is accuracy and attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.

In your new role you will;

  • Be interested in assisting the community
  • Be flexible and co-operative approach to work with good problem solving skills
  • Broad general knowledge
  • Have a commitment to continuous learning

The Customer Services Library Assistant is primarily based at the Hornsby Library and may be required to work at other branch libraries.

Current enrolment in an approved course in Library Studies is the minimum qualification for this position.

A current Working with Children check is required.
