An exciting opportunity exists within our Community Learning and Programs Team for a Librarian or Library Technician.

We are seeking to engage an enthusiastic customer-oriented person to plan, promote and deliver library programs and events including author talks, community education seminars and maker space activities.

About us

Hornsby Shire is located on Sydney's upper north shore, approximately 25 kilometres north of the CBD. Known as the ‘Bushland Shire’, our local government area is characterised by bushland comprising national park, major waterways, natural reserves and rural landscape. The rest of the Shire combines urban, rural and open spaces.

About the role

In your new role, you will be part of a customer-focused team that supports library and information services to the Hornsby Shire community through the delivery of efficient and effective activities and programs, in addition to the provision of efficient and effective information and circulation services.

The Community and Programs Librarian/ Library Officer position has the following major components:

* Staff and customer training

About you

The Community and Programs Librarian/Library Officer position requires a passionate and enthusiastic individual who actively engages in professional development to keep up to date with trends in library programming relevant to the local community. The ability to manage concurrent tasks, to establish priorities and to work independently on a task to completion is critical to the success of this role, as is the flexibility to adapt to a wide range of duties as required.

The Community and Programs Librarian/Library Officer is primarily based at Hornsby Library and may be required to work at other library branches. This role will also require evening and weekend work.

An Australian Library and Information Association accredited library and information science qualification at undergraduate or postgraduate level OR an Australian Library and Information Association accredited library technician qualification is required for this role, as is a Working With Children Check.

The Team Leader, Library Operations, Collections and Digital  Services is an exciting leadership position supporting the Coordinator Library Services. The Team Leader Operations will lead and manage a region-wide programme to develop and transform library services and enable the active participation of all areas of Libraries in service development and continuous improvement.

The successful candidate will oversee core service delivery across the Sunshine Coast Library network including eight libraries and two mobile and outreach services.  The position leads  and supports senior staff in provision of  digital services and development and delivery of physical and eResources for customer use.

Key Duties

  • Ensure that the operational emphasis for Sunshine Coast Libraries is in best practice and continuous improvement to achieve a customer-driven approach to providing quality services.
  • Manage, lead, and mentor staff from various teams in providing excellence in library services, projects, outstanding customer service.
  • Oversight of the management of libraries’ budget and support for staff with operational budget responsibilities
  • Lead the ongoing evaluation, review and redesign of planning, coordination, and management of library services, building and functions
  • The development of internal and external partnerships, networks and communications which enhance, transform library service delivery and drive business drive business improvement
  • Work towards a culture of innovation and learning, ensuring a continuous program of development and training is implemented and made available to all library staff

About you

  • As a requirement of this role, you will have tertiary qualifications in Library and Information Science, Management, Community Development, or other related discipline.
  • You must have a minimum of five years' experience at a senior level in a Library environment, customer service environment or similar relevant experience.
  • You will possess demonstrated leadership skills to build a strong, customer focussed teams and foster a workplace culture consistent with Council’s corporate values.
  • You will demonstrate strong time management and organisation skills to manage significant projects, managing competing priorities and manage a variety of stakeholders expectations and influence to achieve preferred business outcomes.

About the opportunity

Stanton Library is a quality customer focused library service located in a beautiful park setting near a busy CBD, close to public transport and recreational facilities. There is currently an exciting opportunity for a motivated Library Assistant to join the supportive team at Stanton Library.

We are currently seeking part time library assistants to work on the customer service desk at Stanton Library, assisting library borrowers with a wide variety of tasks such as lending, returning and renewing library items, new memberships, basic enquiries and the use of library equipment. This position would suit a library studies student or recent graduate looking to obtain experience in a professional workplace. 

Available Shifts are as follows: 

Part Time Role - 14.25 hours per week 

Monday 8.45am-1pm
Wednesday 5pm-8.15pm
Friday 2pm-5pm
Saturday 9.45am-1.30pm

Availability for shifts across the full range of Library opening hours will be highly regarded.

About the role 
This position is responsible for delivering exceptional customer experiences to achieve Council’s strategic objectives and vision for the City of Parramatta as Sydney’s Central City. The Library Officer contributes to positive customer experience by actively providing service delivery by working as a team member and communicating effectively with customers. 

Council’s library services are delivered across a network of 7 libraries including Phive, the community, cultural and civic heart of Parramatta Square. Council’s libraries are open across a wide spread of hours including 7 days a week at some sites.

The Library Officer will work as part of a team and be responsible for delivering high quality day-to-day customer experience services, plans and programs, and use every customer interaction as an opportunity to build positive connections with the City of Parramatta.

Council currently has several Part-Time and one Full-Time (with 1 RDO per month) Library Officer opportunity available.

On a daily basis you will:

  • Provide a proactive roving or floor walking approach to providing customer service and taking personal responsibility to ensure that all customers receive a positive customer experience
  • Proactively deliver core customer service competencies for Council as part of the Customer Experience Team, to provide memorable and exceptional experiences for customers
  • Ensure that each customer receives a positive customer experience in line with the Customer Service Charter and the Library’s Customer Care Standards
  • Be responsible for providing day-to-day services to enhance community access to and enjoyment of the Library.

 
About You
The successful candidate should have previous operational experience in a library and/or customer service role with a proven track record of achieving objectives. It would be preferred but not essential for applicants to have

  • Completion of an Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) accredited Course or eligible membership of ALIA and relevant experience
  • Demonstrated customer service skills, with exceptional ability to deliver memorable experiences
  • Well-developed PC literacy, including skills with mobile technologies and basic technology trouble shooting skills
  • Experience in providing a range of library or targeted customer programs
  • Well-developed conflict resolution skills, with a focus on de-escalation and win-win outcomes
  • Well-developed planning, organisation and time management skills, including the ability to meet tight deadlines and balance competing priorities
  • Proven ability to work co-operatively as part of a team in a customer service environment.

 
What’s on offer 
We are offering an attractive hourly rate from $75,701.56 to $83,366.97 pro-rata (Includes Salary + Super).

About You
The successful candidate should have previous experience in a customer service role as part of a team working together to deliver memorable experiences for customers. It would be preferred but not essential for applicants to have a:
 

  • HSC certificate or equivalent relevant experience
  • Demonstrated customer service skills, with exceptional ability to deliver memorable experiences
  • Well-developed PD literacy, including skills with mobile technologies and basic technology trouble shooting skills
  • Proven ability to work cooperatively as part of a team in a customer service environment
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to quickly learn and share new skills or customer programs.
