Georges River Libraries have 79 staff working across our five libraries. All our staff are committed to and passionate about working with our local community to provide them with innovative and accessible resources.

Our public library purpose is to provide professional and open access to information as well as to provide a place for the whole community to come together to share ideas, knowledge and experiences. The way we fulfil our role has been and will continue to be transformed by the changing face of our diverse community as well as advances in online sources of information and digital opportunities. The Opportunity :

Our dynamic and busy Library Programs Team is currently seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Library Officer Programs to join the team at our Kogarah Library. The successful candidate will ensure the efficient and effective implementation, creation and delivery of a high quality schedule of library programs and events that meet the strategic objectives of the organisation. The position includes loans desk tasks and roving duties at all Georges River Libraries as required.

What We Offer:

  • Permanent full time - 70 hours per fortnight
  • Salary from $64,204.83 - $74,390.87 per annum plus 9.5% superannuation

About You:

  • TAFE Diploma qualification in Library and Information Science and/or demonstrated experience in library and information services
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing, promoting, delivering effective and relevant library services, programs and events to a diverse community encouraging literacy, creativity and lifelong learning
  • Demonstrated skills in written and verbal communication including summarising data, preparing reports and providing training.
  • High level customer focused approach to service delivery
  • Certificate IV in training ( desirable but not essential)

Woollahra Council is seeking an enthusiastic Library Trainee to join our Woollahra Libraries team and undertake a full time 12 month contract traineeship. 

You will be a self-motivated individual and have completed a School Certificate or HSC, but be otherwise unqualified (you must not have previously completed a university degree or TAFE qualification). You will be willing to work full time whilst undertaking the Certificate III or Certificate IV in Information and Cultural Services. In this position you will mostly learn on the job with the TAFE component both online and face to face at your selected TAFE campus.

In this entry-level role, as a Library Trainee, you will learn about all areas of Library Services from delivering high quality customer service, to assisting in the day-to-day operation of the library and participating in cross-team projects across the Library network.

Essential Criteria

• Willingness to enrol in Cert III or Cert IV in Information and Cultural Services.
• Cannot have previously completed a tertiary qualification, such as university or TAFE.
• Enthusiastic and personable approach to providing excellent customer service.
• Well-developed oral and written communication skills.
• Basic computer skills including Word, Excel and Internet services.
• Demonstrated ability to undertake the physical requirements of the position.
• Hold a current Working With Children check.

Fairfield City Council seeks a creative and dynamic leader to oversee our award winning Open Libraries, the Fairfield City Museum and Gallery and Council’s Customer Service Division to deliver both traditional and innovative services to the community.

The Manager Library, Museum and Customer Service will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and the day to day operational management for the Division.

The Fairfield City Open Libraries consists of five branch libraries which recently won the LG Professional Excellence Award – Service Delivery 2019. Our Open Libraries program balances traditional library functions along with innovative services such as the Workary, Studio 2166 and Lab.LX. Council’s current Operational Plan includes the construction of a new Fairfield Branch Library, a new Community and Business Hub, a new Robotics and Science Technology Hub at Bonnyrigg Library and an upgrade to the Whitlam Library Children’s area. 

The position also oversees Fairfield City Council’s Museum and Gallery, which strengthens the history of the Fairfield City, through visual arts and social history exhibitions, workshops, education programs and events that recognises the different cultures of the local area, providing a medium for expressing different cultural values and history. The Customer Service team is critical to achieving Council’s Customer Experience Program and is the gateway into providing quality, best-value service to our customers that connects them with solutions.

Relevant qualifications and extensive management experience in a senior role of a multidisciplinary team in community services are preferred for this position.

The successful applicant will demonstrate the qualities of being a highly motivated visionary leader with strong interpersonal skills who is able to align themselves to the community’s vision and the Council’s mission and values.

About the role

Based at the Rockingham Central Library you will provide library services to the community, ensuring all available services are provided to children and young people, and contribute to the efficient operation of the Library as a whole.

The ideal candidate

To be the successful candidate, you will have experience in a customer focussed environment and are able to communicate effectively with children, youth and their parents. You have demonstrated skills in problem solving and time management and are able to demonstrate these skills along with your ability to use initiative.

You have proven experience in planning, promoting and organising events and programs, particularly with a community focus. You work well in a team environment and are able to establish and maintain positive work relationships with different government authorities, education institutions and individual stakeholders. You have a passion for increasing literacy among children and young people, and for promoting library services and resources to residents.

You possess a qualification in library services and/or early childhood education. Experience in a similar or related field is an advantage, but not essential.

‘C’ class driver’s licence and use of own vehicle is essential as in this role you will be required to drive between the City’s libraries.

This position offers a cash salary of $72,077 per annum.
