Situated at our Mornington Library on the beautiful Mornington Peninsula, the Library Services & Programs Officer provides outstanding customer service to library customers and supports the library team in delivering an exceptional and engaging service to the Mornington Peninsula community and its visitors.

You will be a member of an effective, cooperative, and cohesive Libraries team who are committed to providing quality customer focused service to all library users.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Consistently deliver exceptional customer service outcomes and communicate in a positive manner with both customers and staff, as per the Shire’s Code of Conduct.
  • Help customers to access online library services, products and other technologies and provide training and support through formal or informal training programs.
  • Provide help and advice to customers in locating and obtaining information, referring to specialist staff or alternative sources of information when necessary.
  • Provide support to specialist staff in meeting the reading and information needs of library customers.
  • Collect, process, and reconcile payments at front of house customer service and self-service stations.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of library services, programs and events that support lifelong learning, digital literacy/technology, reader development and literacy outcomes, including set up, crowd control and event promotion.
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement by providing input into the review and development of strategies, plans, policies, standards, and procedures as required.
  • Contribute to a collection of materials that meets the needs of the community by assisting with the circulation, maintenance, and physical repairs of the library collection.
  • Support the issuing and returning of library materials through the library management system.
  • Support the day-to-day operations of the library including shelving, tidying and display maintenance.

Skills, experience, and other requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Diploma of Library Information, Information Services or equivalent qualification appropriate to the position or substantial experience in a similar role
  • Experience in local government or other complex organisations is desirable
  • Substantial experience in frontline customer service
  • Substantial experience in IT applications
  • Relevant prior experience in public libraries is desirable
  • An Employee Working with Children Check
  • Preparedness to undertake an Australian Criminal History Check
  • Preparedness to undertake a fitness to work assessment
  • A valid Driver’s Licence

About the Role

We are looking for someone who is passionate about delivering a customer focused library service to be a key leader within our customer experience team. The team works across all five of Georges River Libraries and is responsible for the design and delivery of an exceptional customer experience.

The role has scope for you to engage directly with our customers and to take on projects that will continue to innovate the way we deliver our library services to meet our communities needs.

The position also offers an opportunity for you to demonstrate your passion for team building and leadership in a public library setting. You will be working with a dedicated team of professionals in some of the libraries most rewarding work.

About the Opportunity

  • Permanent, Full-Time (70 hours per fortnight)
  • Salary from $79,559.72 - $92,181.87 per annum (plus 10% superannuation)

Be a key player in the efficient and effective operations of Georges River Libraries through the provision of quality library services that support a stronger, more connected and resilient Georges River community.

Key Accountabilities

  • Plan, develop and implement customer experience procedures.
  • Provide team leadership, training and supervision in the delivery of innovative library services and programs
  • Provide timely and professional Reference, Information and Readers Advisory service to library customers.

Qualifications, Certificates & Licences

  • Tertiary qualifications in Library and Information Science allowing professional membership of the Australian Library and Information Association

Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, train and supervise people in a rapidly changing environment
  • Demonstrated experience in library and information service delivery
  • Ability to understand the customers' priorities to enable anticipation of their needs and demonstrate initiative in adapting team plans and goals to meet them
  • Demonstrated analytical, time management, organisational, project management and creative problem-solving skills
  • Ability to monitor budgetary spending within work area, against pre-determined targets and actively seek efficiencies
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in automated library management systems and the application of technology for the delivery of library services
  • Must be fully vaccinated (minimum 2 doses) with an approved COVID-19 vaccine and provide Council with evidence of vaccination, or an accepted certified medical contraindication. Council reserves the right to confirm the validity of contraindications in accordance with NSW Health guidelines, and to direct a Worker to undertake an independent medical examination in relation to the issuance of a medical contraindication certificate.

The Position 
This position will lead the Learning and Outreach team to develop and manage a range of innovative and relevant public and educational programs for AlburyCity’s LibraryMuseum and Lavington Library. The position will operate as a key member of the Libraries and Museum Team, to develop and implement integrated programs to the community and visitors.

Qualifications & experience 

  • Tertiary Qualifications in Education, Arts Management, Libraries, Museum Studies or related discipline, or relevant equivalent experience.

Desirable Criteria

  • Class C (standard) Drivers Licence

Tasks & responsibilities 

  • Lead the development of a range of public programs and exhibitions to further the education and lifelong learning role of the Albury LibraryMuseum and Lavington Library and engage the community and visitors.
  • Lead and supervise the Learning & Outreach team including work- flow, performance management, training and development, and promoting a harmonious team environment.
  • Lead the development and implementation of a range of programs and educational resources to support Libraries and Museum exhibitions, collections and services.
  • Market programs in line with AlburyCity Communication protocols and in liaison with relevant team members.
  • Oversee major projects and programs, including the annual Write around the Murray Festival
  • Lead evaluation of programs and resources to assist in developing responsive and community focussed programs.
  • Build networks between Albury Cultural Facilities, educational and life-long learning facilities and community and special interest groups, to ensure program and product relevance and community engagement.
  • Provide input into the preparation of strategic, business and marketing plans.
  • Contribute to the development and monitoring of budgets and annual forecasts and funding applications.

This role will  

  • Attract a salary of $78,870 to $86,705 + 10% Superannuation 
  • Based on a 35 hour week, working 35 hours across a 7-day spread, with actual days and times being worked in accordance with facility roster, with an RDO in accordance with AlburyCity’s RDO guidelines. Hours worked on weekends will attract the appropriate loadings.
