Yarra Libraries are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our Children’s’ and Youth Services team. In this role, you will support the literacy needs of children by developing and delivering library services and programs. We're looking for someone who knows how early literacy develops and can confidently perform in front of large, diverse crowds, whilst maintaining strong, effective relationships with our community.

About the role 

This position is responsible for maintaining and enhancing library systems and technologies ensuring they are fit for purpose and functioning optimally. Working collaboratively with all Library staff this role provides information, support and expert advice on library and related technologies and software. On a daily basis you will:

  • Prove first level support by assessing, prioritising and resolving or referring Library technology and related software requests and problems 
  • Administer, maintain and enhance Library applications and technology to provide high quality experiences and seamless service access for Library customers. 
  • Produce, review and maintain Library technology and related software procedures and operational manuals for use by Library staff.
  • Work collaboratively with the Library Programs and Engagement team, the Library Customer Experience team and Council's ICT team to introduce and deliver new technologies to Library customers.

About You 

You will have an innate ability to communicate clearly in person, in writing and online and you will bring experience at working collaboratively with stakeholders to successfully deliver small and medium sized technology and systems projects 

You are familiar with the wide range of hardware and software products in use in public libraries and strive to ensure high quality customer experiences and seamless service access.

Your customer and solutions focussed approach extends to technology planning, and you identify and implement new-to-the-Library technology opportunities for the Parramatta community. 

You have a tertiary qualification in information science/librarianship, or a related discipline; or relevant demonstrable experience.

What You’ll Be Working On  

On a daily basis, you will provide a high quality customer service to the Library customers at the Library’s Customer Service Desk and ensure that Library items are processed efficiently.

You will be shelving and shelf-checking Library items, deal effectively with external stakeholders, including customer service requests, answering general and directional enquiries.

You’ll be comfortable handling EFTPOS transactions for overdue fines, sales and other payments, and assist with overseeing general tidiness of the Library.

The spread of hours for this position comprises evening shifts on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5.30pm to 9.00pm and alternate Saturday and Sunday shifts from 9.30am to 4.00pm. 

What You’ll Bring to the Role 

You will be committed to providing high quality customer service and continuous improvement of Library services. Your proven ability to work effectively in a team, be organised and meet deadlines as well as a strong interest in libraries and information science will ensure your success in the role. Also, you will be proficient in using Windows and Microsoft 365 applications.

 In addition to the above, you will also hold a Higher School Certificate and a valid Covid-19 vaccination certificate.

Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications

Salary and Benefits

About the Position

We have an exciting opportunity for the role of Library Officer within the Community Development Directorate.

We are seeking an outgoing and organised person who likes working with people, including children, to join the team at the Onslow Library. This role is responsible for providing excellent customer service along with assisting in the provision of special programs at the library, and general administration duties.

Our ideal candidate will be highly motivated, with excellent communication skills and the ability to engage young people, as well as previous experience in customer service and/or administration. We are a regional library corporation providing services to Knox, Maroondah and Yarra Ranges Councils. The library network consists of 13 branches, 3 Community Reading Rooms, the historic Miller’s Homestead and an outreach ‘Flexi’ service. We have an extensive digital collection and have developed a number of technological solutions that are industry leaders.

About the role

Croydon is one of two libraries in the City of Maroondah and is one of the busiest branches across Your Library, with around 500,000 loans and 230,000 visitors per year.

There are four regular storytimes each week supplemented by additional storytimes in Auslan and Chinese. There is a dedicated Technology Support Officer delivering one-to-one help sessions and overseeing staff training.

A vibrant program of events for adults includes regular special interest groups, literary programming, and social activities.

Supporting branch programming is the regional Digital Literacy team and Literacy Officer, focused on outreach to our communities.

Croydon library hosts a Customer Service desk operated by Council staff for Maroondah City Council.

About you

Management experience and library experience are preferred, but not mandatory.

Permanent Part Time (18 hours per week)

Salary $53,769 - $65,289, pro rata inclusive of 15% loading (provided that you work a roster from Monday to Sunday) plus superannuation.

The opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Library Circulation Clerk.

The City of Armadale is seeking an outgoing, customer-focussed person to join the team at our libraries. This role is responsible for providing outstanding frontline service including assistance with digital resources.

You will be highly motivated, with excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with customers of all ages and cultures. Experience working in a library will be highly regarded, however is not essential.

In this role, some of your day-to-day tasks will include:

  • Providing high quality customer service to library users
  • Supporting library users in accessing library resources and services
  • Assisting customers with library e-resources and technology
  • Undertaking general administration skills and library tasks

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • A great customer service attitude with the ability to assist all customers.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to work effectively in a team.
  • A good level of computer skills, including using online resources.
  • The ability to work additional hours will be highly regarded.

About our Libraries

The City of Ryde Library service comprises of five branches at Ryde, North Ryde, Eastwood, West Ryde and Gladesville as well as a significant online library. Our libraries are places of social inclusion where members of our community borrow items for leisure and lifelong learning, learn about new technology, participate in activities, attend children’s and adults’ programs. They are lively, busy places and serve a culturally diverse customer base.

About the Role

Library Assistants are our front line customer service staff and work in all areas of the library. They are passionate about giving back to the community. This is a significant role in the City of Ryde Library service providing valuable support to the Team Leader in regard to collection maintenance and team communication as well as a variety of tasks which range from assisting customers with library technology, Reader Advisory services, leading children’s activities such as story-time and after school activities and assisting in maintaining a safe, neat, welcoming library.

This is an exciting and rare opportunity to gain a full time position in the Ryde Library team based at the central branch in Top Ryde Shopping Centre.

Please note that this position involves regular rostered evening shifts as well as a Saturday or Sunday shift approximately once per month. Full time team members participate in a rostered day off scheme gaining an RDO approximately once every 3 weeks

The core hours for this position are:

  • Monday 12.45 – 9pm
  • Tuesday 12.45 – 9pm
  • Wednesday 8.45 am – 5pm
  • Thursday 8.45 am – 5pm
  • Friday 8.45 am – 5pm

Your commencing rate of pay will be from between $57,054.93 - $59,708.64 p.a. plus superannuation, subject to your library qualifications and experience. Penalty rates for weekend shifts also apply.

About you

You will have exceptional customer service skills and enthusiasm to help our diverse range of public library users. 

In addition, you must have:

  • Completion of Library qualifications (minimum Certificate III in Library and Information Services) or equivalent substantial work experience in a library
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working in a library
  • Exceptional teamwork skills with proven experience to also work independently
  • Adaptable approach to tasks with the ability to prioritise and multi-task
  • An enthusiasm for technology and the ability to assist customers in the use of library technologies such as printing, scanning, use of online resources and apps

Note: This is a Child Related position and employment is subject to verification of the Working with Children Check status.
