The opportunity

Fostering a love of reading, supporting lifelong learning and providing a space for people to connect, Federation Council libraries play an important role in local communities.

We have an opportunity for a customer focused person to join our library team on a casual basis. This role will provide a high standard of library services and council related customer service. It is a dynamic and fundamental role within the organisation, that will focus on promoting a professional and positive image of Council and meeting the needs of customers at all times.

In this role you will:

  • Provide effective customer service.
  • Provide circulation, readers advisory and information services to library users.
  • Process and shelve library stock.
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders and community groups.
  • Assist in the provision of library programs.
  • Accurately accept and receipt monies, carry out daily balances and assist with the preparation and processing of bank deposits and cash by post transactions.


  • Hold a Certificate III Library Services, Business Administration, or related field or relevant experience.
  • Hold a valid NSW Working with Children Check and Police Check.
  • Hold a current and valid class C drivers licence.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of library operations, library services and principles of customer service
  • Demonstrated good oral and written communication skills with an ability to communicate in a courteous and effective manner;
  • Demonstrated ability to provide a high level of service and display professionalism when interacting with a diverse range of customers and stakeholders

The appointment will be in accordance with the Local Government State Award and Council’s policies and conditions of employment. The salary will be within the range of $39.61 to $43.72 per week including casual loading plus standard allowances, depending on qualifications, experience and skills.
