Permanent full-time, 35 hours per week

Greater Dandenong Libraries’ vision is connecting community to learn, engage and inspire. The two library branches in Dandenong and Springvale typically receive up to 1 million visitations annually. We offer a dynamic collection and virtual branch allowing 24/7 access to library resources and deliver an active programming and outreach model to the community.

There is an opportunity for an energised full-time Children’s and Youth Services Librarian to join our contemporary library service.

The role’s key responsibilities involve collection management of children and young adult content together with strategic development and evaluation of library programs for children and youth. As rostered Librarian this role supervises an efficient and responsive front-of-house Library Service including support of branch rostering through a weekly evening and a monthly weekend front-of-house shift. As a Libraries After Dark library, we are open until 10pm on Thursdays.

As the successful applicant you will actively collaborate with key stakeholders and be a committed team member in the delivery of excellent service and working for continuous improvement. You will have capacity to interact effectively and positively with a diverse community, community groups and organisations, schools, suppliers and contractors, library and council staff. Demonstration of a proactive approach in resolving issues that arise from your area of responsibility is imperative. You must be able to show experience in collection management, strategic programming and community development in your area of specialty. Accredited tertiary qualifications in librarianship, teaching or education along with extensive relevant public library experience is essential.

 You may be required to undertake practical testing, work preference profiling / psychometric testing, functional capacity assessment (physical) or aptitude testing.

The successful candidate will be asked to produce a clear Working with Children Check and will be asked to consent to a national police check (and where relevant an ‘international criminal history check’), subject to the operation of spent conviction laws.
