Council Overview

Strathfield Council (Council) is a medium sized Council located in Sydney’s Inner West. The area of the Council comprises approximately 14 square kilometres and has an estimated population of 46,000 residents, which is growing at 2.5-3% annually. Based on NSW Government projections, the population will increase to over 80,000 by 2036.

About the Role

Strathfield Council is seeking a dedicated Customer Service Assistant (Casual) to provide library circulation and customer services, assist with the maintenance of service areas and deliver information services to library customers.

In order to undertake the role, it requires the following duties:

  • Assist with general library duties such as loans, returns, shelving, book lockers, reservations, desk shifts as rostered, including weekend and evening shifts as required.
  • Provide high-quality customer service with customers from a diverse range of cultures and backgrounds whilst working in a busy environment by providing effective communication skills.
  • Contribute to the promotion and marketing of programs and events for Library services including the library’s social media sites and liaise with Council’s Communication Department

About You

To succeed in the role, you will have the following:

  • Higher School Certificate and extensive practical library experience, or Higher School Certificate and experience in customer focused service delivery
  • Demonstrated customer service skills, including the ability to respond promptly and courteously to a diverse range of service needs and a good knowledge of library services, products, and collections.
  • Demonstrated strong communication and problems solving skills and ability to provide information services to a culturally diverse public.
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment, individually and under limited supervision.
  • Demonstrated commitment to achieving Council’s values and organisational behaviours.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to Equal Employment Opportunity, Workplace Health and Safety and Cultural Diversity principles.
  • A Working with Children Check number or willingness to obtain.
  • Experience in using Library Management Systems or similar point of sale systems (Desirable)
  • Knowledge of, and /or experience in local government (Desirable)
  • Valid NSW Class C Driver’s Licence. (Desirable)
