* $72,330 per annum pro rata (Band 4), plus Super * Permanent Part Time (20.5 hours per week) * Weekend and Evening shifts required

Hume City Council's Libraries has an exciting opportunity for a motivated and experienced Library Technician to provide library services for the Hume community. Based at the Gladstone Park Community Library, you will contribute to the provision of high-quality library services that meet the educational, recreational and information needs of the diverse Hume community.

In this role you will:

  • Provide a high level customer service skills including dealing with challenging customers whilst presenting a positive Council image.
  • Represent Hume Libraries working in a shared-use library in a secondary college, and collaborate with school-based staff and stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders with a broad range of people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Actively collaborate with teams within Hume libraries and contribute to the maintenance of library collections.
  • Support learning for the Hume community and have a shared responsibility for planning and delivering high-quality and innovative library programs, and report on program, activity and event outcomes.
  • Demonstrate technology and library literacy to the community and provide assistance to customers using library technology, including online resources, print management system and devices.
  • Communicate library services, policies and procedures to library customers and others in the community and promote all Hume Libraries services and collections to the community.
  • Promote and ensure a safe and healthy environment for customers and staff

Key Skills

  • Diploma of Library / Information Services (Library Technician) or equivalent post-secondary qualification.
  • Experience in a Public Library or similar environment.
  • Ability to assist with engaging members of the community to use the library and its resources to meet their educational, recreational and information needs.
  • Strong customer service skills including the ability to deal with challenging customers.
  • Experience in providing reference and information services.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to use a variety of computer hardware and software; including electronic and print based information resources.
  • Ability to communicate with and gain cooperation and assistance from a broad range of people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated ability to convey computer and library literacy to the community.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Current Driver's Licence and Working with Children's check
