The Opportunity

The opportunity will see you providing excellent customer service to library users in accordance with Council policies, procedures and standards. You will be responsible for developing library services and ensuring the programs delivered for children are planned and prepared and of a high quality.


  • Plan, prepare and deliver early literacy programming for babies, toddlers and pre-school children in the library and in outreach settings
  • Work collaboratively with local schools, kindergartens, childcare centres, youth organisations to maximise reach and impact of library services in the community
  • Supervise the work of library staff involved in children’s services and conduct annual performance reviews for direct reports
  • Provide a proactive and customer-focused approach to library service delivery
  • Undertake customer service duties as required, including working at different libraries

Skills & Experience

  • A tertiary qualification acceptable for professional membership (librarian) of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA)
  • Experience working in public libraries and developing programs children and/or young adults
  • Demonstrated customer service skills with a strong customer service focus

We are currently seeking Casual Library Relief Officers at the Town of Gawler. The Library Team are responsible for providing consistent and high quality Library and Customer Services across a number of sites within the community.

The successful candidates will possess demonstrated Library and/or Customer Service experience, strong interpersonal communication skills, high attention to detail, the ability to prioritise and work under pressure, and the ability to work co-operatively and effectively as part of a team. Demonstrated computer skills are also required.

In this Casual Relief role, you will provide casual relief to the Team as required. You will perform a variety of Library and Customer Service front desk tasks, including assisting with enquiries, registering new borrowers, issuing and returning library materials, accurately shelving and maintaining library materials, cash handling and the receipting of a wide range of accounts, permits, applications and registrations, including rates and dog registrations.

Through a Memorandum of Understanding, casual Library shifts at the Adelaide Plains Council Library will also be offered to successful candidates. Weekend and evening work as rostered to support Library opening hours will be required.

To be successful in this position, you must have a current Driver’s Licence, as you will be required to work across a number of sites. About you

To be successful in this role you will have experience in reporting, providing expert advice and supporting training and programmes regarding digital collections, online resources and related technologies. You will bring exceptional communication, interpersonal and high level organisational skills. It is also important to have the ability to think critically and analytically. The successful candidate must have a degree in library information recognised by ALIA or a related discipline with contemporary experience in a similar role.

Previous experience in a public library setting is also desirable as the role will participate in the Library and Community Hub Customer Care Roster, including some evening and weekend work. About the role:

The City are seeking an enthusiastic and suitably experienced person for the role of Librarian eServices. This role provides overall systems administration for the Library Management System, website content and online public access catalogue management for the City’s public libraries.

The successful applicant will have substantial experience in the administration, support and enhancement of business and management information systems and:

  • A tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science or Librarianship.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage web-based content (HTML, CSS, JavaScript/jQuery and web CMS).
  • The ability to build and maintain strong business relationships in the provision of business systems improvement and support.
