The role

This position sits within our Library and Community Services Department and is responsible for developing, implementing and providing strategic direction for the Libraries and Community Services team in line with organisation strategies, objectives, visions and values.

The person

You are a highly motivated individual that has extensive experience leading a Library or Community Services function within a Council.  You will have a positive approach to leading growth and change, with a high level of emotional intelligence and ability to apply leadership principles to positively influence people and organisational culture. Furthermore, you are highly analytical and adept at forming credible and collaborative relationships with key stakeholders across the organisation. Tertiary qualifications in Library and Information services, Community services or similar required.

As the Manager of a team you will be responsible for getting the best out of those who work with you, with a team focus on customer service and continuous improvement.

The package

A remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful candidate. This package will include a vehicle option.

The roles

  • Part-time Library Assistant - Gloucester 
    • $26.50 per hour plus superannuation
    • 9 hours per week on the following scheduleWednesday 9:30am - 12:30pm, Thursday 10am - 1pm and Friday 10am - 1pm. 
  • Multiple Casual Library Assistant roles - Forster, Gloucester and Taree 
    • $26.50 per hour + 25% loading plus superannuation
    • Hours will vary depending on the needs of the organisation. 

These positions sit within the Libraries department and is responsible for the provision of professional customer service and supporting relevant library events and programs. The incumbents of these positions are expected to demonstrate the following attributes and capabilities in undertaking their role: 

  • Conduct interactions with customers professionally by clarifying and understanding the customer request, presenting options and explaining solutions
  • Conduct transactions accurately and efficiently
  • Promote Council’s brand by being positive, enthusiastic, engaging and consistently delivering quality services
  • Assist with maintenance of public area, shelving, shelf-checking and tidying materials
  • Provide assistance in using technology such as the Internet, wireless PCs, self-check units and eReaders

The person

In order to be successful in this position you will require: 

  • Previous experience in the provision of quality customer service 
  • Experience and knowledge in the operations and systems of public libraries 
  • Demonstrated experience with computers and a familiarity with standard PC software applications
  • Current Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain
  • Current Class C drivers license

Tamworth Regional Council is seeking a motivated individual with experience in Customer Service and/or Library Services to join the team at Manilla in the new "one stop shop". 

This is a varied and interesting role where you will be responsible for:-

  • providing excellent customer service and active engagement with customers;
  • assisting customers with locating library resources, using the reader's advisory service and assisting customers with using technology;
  • providing business support to all council directorates and external bodies (such as Centrelink);
  • promoting and presenting library programs and events; and
  • being able to work across different locations as required. 

The ability to communicate and work effectively in a team will be essential.

The successful candidates will need to hold a Certificate III in Business Administration or Information and Cultural Services (or equivalent relevant experience) as well as a current driver licence and have experience and/or demonstrated capability in the following areas:-

  • Customer service;
  • Public library services;
  • Conflict resolution strategies;
  • Time management techniques; and
  • Cash handling. 

Previous experience in a Local Government environment would be highly regarded. 

This position has been classified as Grade 8 with an hourly rate of $29.33 per hour for 21 hours per week Monday to Wednesday.

Additional hours may be available from time to time.

About the opportunity

We are looking for experienced Library Technicians to fill:

Reporting to the Branch Librarians, the positions will focus on providing current and accurate information to meet the needs and the delivery of library programs. You will be proficient in the delivery of quality customer service, current library and technology trends as well as all library resources. Qualifications and experience

Essential:

  • Library Technician Diploma, Associate Diploma or equivalent, as recognised by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA)
  • Previous library experience

  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment and independently

Remuneration and benefits
The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.

Permanent, full-time role:

  • A competitive salary range for the permanent, full-time position of $1,107.90 - $1,240.90 (Grade 5) per week will be offered based on skills, qualifications and experience
  • 35 hour working week

About the role

The primary purpose of the position is to support the effective provision of library services to customers as required. Key functions include high quality customer service; assist at the service desk and with activity and promotional programs, daily cash management and circulation duties. You will be required to work on the library floor at both the branch and neighbourhood libraries.  You will be required to participate in a number of library team meetings and activities arranged annually.

These roles are multifaceted; one includes overseeing the Shepparton Home Library Service, the other enhancing our Community at the Shepparton Library.

The successful applicants must be available to work a flexible roster of shifts across weekdays, weekends and evenings, and be able to support the goals of the Corporation.
