Jobs/Responsibilities

The Heritage Research Librarian is responsible for supporting Council’s heritage programs and initiatives through provision of research, publications, electronic media and the delivery of programs and events as part of this service. This will include:

  • Undertake high level historical research relating to the local area to support Council’s heritage programs and initiatives.
  • Develop written content based on research in a variety of formats including reports, articles and interpretive signage.
  • Assist in the development of community engagement and learning programs, events and exhibitions to targeted key priority groups promoting  heritage services to the broader community
  • Create content for relevant websites and databases and ensure these are maintained, promoted and utilised.

Skills/Experience

To be successful in this position you will need:

  • Qualifications as a Librarian recognised by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) or equivalent
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of reference and information services with well-developed research skills.
  • High level communication skills both verbal and written including the ability to liaise and interact effectively with a wide range of individuals and organisations.
  • Demonstrated awareness of current library trends and an ongoing commitment to professional development

Your new role:
Reporting directly to the Executive Director Riverina Regional Library, this role is responsible for the redevelopment of the Riverina Regional Library’s digital engagement presence.

The scope of the role includes a review of the Digital Engagement Division structure; website redevelopment and ongoing maintenance; maximising social media engagement; reviewing and implementing digital preservation strategies; optimising the organisation’s Library Management System (particularly in relation to electronic collection management capacity); managing RFID systems; and reviewing digital support arrangements with member councils.

  • Lead, mentor, challenge and inspire the Digital Engagement team;
  • Challenge the RRL Management Team with suggestions, innovations and continuous improvement strategies to make RRL a digital engagement exemplar; and
  • Collaborate and consult with member Council’s and branch libraries and think outside the square to reimagine RRL’s Digital Engagement aspirations.

What you need to succeed:
The successful applicant will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications relevant to the role e.g. Information Technology and/or Digital Engagement qualifications;
  • Substantial experience relevant to the role including development and rollout of digital engagement strategies. Library experience may be advantageous but is not essential;
  • The ability to lead, inspire and manage a team and collaborate effectively with a range of stakeholders; and
  • Experience in administering complex IT systems, as well as high level website development and social media skills.
