Collections Librarian

Permanent part-time (22.5 hours per week)
Salary: $72,763 - $87,685 (pro rata) per annum + 11.5% super

The City of Fremantle is seeking a suitably experienced Collections Librarian to join our team at the state-of-the-art library in Walyalup Civic Centre. This is a great opportunity for someone with a passion for collection development and customer service to contribute to a busy and collaborative team.

The position reports to the Library Manager and will require you to apply your industry knowledge and community understanding to manage and develop an engaging collection of resources for the Fremantle and East Fremantle communities. You will be expected to take initiative in terms of special collections, developing relevant and attractive library displays, supporting programs and other library activities with custom collections and reading lists, and fulfilling desk shifts in the library roster.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Collection development and management, including promotion and marketing
  • Budget management and systems reporting
  • Reference and IT support and general customer service
  • Working collaboratively with the broader Lifelong Learning team to identify opportunities to increase access and awareness of the Library’s collection and services.

The successful applicant will have or be working towards a degree and/or post-graduate qualification which qualifies for Associate (Professional) membership of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA), and understand modern collection development principles and practices, including cataloguing. A high level of customer service experience will be looked at favourably, as will a flexible and positive attitude.
