A bit about the role
The Family and Local History Librarian will provide high quality family and local history services which meet the learning and recreational needs of the Wyndham community.
Based at our Hoppers Crossing Library, this role will focus on the delivery of a range of programs for adults in person and online, including regular Family History Help sessions and Family History Groups, as well as ad hoc events such as partnership events, information sessions, and local history events. You will have a passion for family and local history, fostering lifelong learning, and for working in an all-inclusive community. This role also oversees the operations of the Family and Local History Room, related resources, as well as supervising Family and Local History Volunteers.
In addition to the duties above, you will be rostered for regular customer service shifts and regular weekend shifts are a requirement of this role. Ad-hoc adjustments to your work pattern will be required for events or programs, including some evening work. This position may require rotating to other branches in line with operational requirements.
The work pattern for this role is:
- Permanent Part-time – 20 hours per week
- Week One: Monday - Thursday: 9am - 3pm (1 hour meal break)
- Week Two: Tuesday - Friday: 9am - 3pm (1 hour meal break)
- Regular Saturday morning work is required (approx. once a month)
What you’ll deliver
- Ensure the successful and professional delivery of family and local history programs, services, training, and events that are based on the community’s needs and interests.
- Effectively liaise with colleagues, community groups, key stakeholders and the wider community under the guidance of the Team Leader Adult Programs and Services
- Develop and maintain partnerships that encourage family and local history research, collection development, and community engagement.
- Have an understanding of marketing to promote the family and local history programs and services to the community in a variety of formats.
- Recruit and supervise family and local history volunteers.
- Provide leadership to the library customer service team when rostered on desk.
What you’ll bring
- Event planning and program delivery experience and knowledge
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and time management skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of family and local history resources
- A clear understanding of library trends regarding the delivery of family and local history services.
- Solid knowledge of new forms of media and information technology which can be used to enhance program delivery, marketing and partnerships.
- Degree or Graduate Diploma in Information Management, History, Heritage Studies or relevant field, or equivalent with related relevant experience or lesser formal qualifications and substantial relevant related experience.
- A positive, curious and flexible attitude.
- A current Working with Children’s Check is required.
