About PLA

Public Libraries Australia Ltd (PLA) was formed in 2002 in response to the identified need for a peak body to represent the Australian public library sector.

PLA has a Board of Directors made up of state / territory representatives elected from and by the PLA membership, and the ability to include Board appointed Directors.

PLA held its inaugural conference – Libraries Are Loud – But Who’s Listening in November 2005. Some 200 delegates attended this very successful conference.

PLA is a grass-roots organisation that seeks to represent the aspirations of the public library sector.

PLA has been working on a number of projects, with particular focus on public library employment - for example our hugely successful Employment Connect Bulletin (PLA eConnect) which is distributed nationally every week.
