Brimbank Libraries is a dynamic public library service in Melbourne’s western suburbs delivering a range of services and programs to the community to support lifelong learning, literacy and social connection.

About the role

We are seeking an operations professional who is committed to the continuous improvement of library service through the strategic planning, development, implementation and maintenance which support library service provisions. In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Delivering excellent direct customer service at all service points as rostered across opening hours, including weekends and evenings
  • Leading the development, planning, delivery and evaluation of library rosters across all service points
  • Leading and building capacity in updating procedures and maintaining clear documentation on process, systems and procedures relating to library operations.
  • Facilitating staff training and development
  • Leading and supporting the Health and Safety Representative (HSR) and ensure safety compliance.
  • Implementing evaluation and feedback systems to guide future improvement and ensure high quality service, with a focus on staff skills to meet community needs
  • Supporting branch leadership activities to ensure the delivery of customer focused customer service, resolution of operational and facility issues, and branch employee teamwork and communication.

About You

Are you an experienced leader with strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, along with a deep understanding of library operations and customer service.

With extensive experience in information services, staff support, and customer engagement, you effectively apply your knowledge to ensure smooth operations while fostering a positive and inclusive environment. Your passion for lifelong learning and community engagement, combined with your expertise in staff development and technology, equips you to lead high-quality library services that meet diverse community needs. You will have:

  • Flexibility, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude and commitment to provide friendly and welcoming customer service in a dynamic environment with constant public contact with people from all backgrounds and age groups.
  • An inclusive leadership style to support the Library Team Leader in their day-to-day activities and be prepared to act in their position as required.
  • Exceptional time management, organisation and planning skills
  • Skilled in writing clear procedures and training documentation
  • Ability to lead, inspire, and motivate teams while implementing change
  • Strong communicator, fostering positive outcomes for both staff and the community
  • Knowledge and interest in new technologies that relate to library service delivery
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field

Hours are spread across the week and include a late shift to 8pm and a one in four Saturday shift. Additional Sunday shifts are available as overtime.

Staff are required to work across any of the library locations based at Deer Park, Keilor, St Albans, Sunshine and Sydenham.

All successful candidates must have a working with Children Check and undertake a Police check.

Interviews will be held in the week starting 25 November for a January 2025 start
