About the role

The Collections and Acquisitions Librarian is a key role in our collections team, delivering high-quality collections support and services across all of our libraries, as well as our digital library.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the ordering and processing of library materials
  • Working closely with external suppliers to ensure timely and relevant supply of library materials
  • Maintaining relevant documentation and working with suppliers to make sure shelf-ready stock is processed and catalogued to our documented standards
  • Monitoring usage of digital library platforms, and curating digital content to meet the needs of the community
  • Original cataloguing of library materials as required
  • Working with the wider library team
  • Participating in industry networks to keep abreast of best practices and new products
  • Mentoring and supporting library staff to enhance engagement with library collections
  • Acting as Officer in Charge when required, overseeing day-to-day library operations
  • Providing information services including reader advisory and information retrieval
  • Supporting customer use of technology and library systems, including troubleshooting and general IT assistance
  • Undertaking a broad range of library duties as required

About you

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Ability to work in accordance with Brimbank Libraries’ values and behaviours
  • Eligibility for professional membership of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA), or relevant qualifications with demonstrated cataloguing experience and working with library acquisitions
  • Proven experience in delivering customer service excellence in a high-volume environment
  • Proven experience in developing library collections both physical and digital.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in cataloguing and acquisitions
  • Ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to engage with people of all backgrounds and ages, manage high levels of public interaction, and supervise staff effectively
  • Strong knowledge of library online resources, computer equipment, mobile devices, and emerging technologies, with the ability to troubleshoot IT issues
  • Resilience, adaptability, and a proactive mindset to drive positive outcomes in dynamic environments
  • Ability to manage difficult situations, resolve problems, and diffuse potential conflict constructively
