Librarian - Customer Support

  • Part time ongoing position at Greythorn Library Lounge  
  • Exciting opportunity to support our dynamic Library Services team
  • $79,701 - $92,744 per annum (pro rata to be applied) plus Super 

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Librarian to join our Library Services Customer Support team based at Greythorn Library Lounge on a part time ongoing basis working 13.75 hours per week, across Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. 

Please note regular weekend and evening work is also required. 

A little bit about the role

Along with general library duties, the role will provide the highest possible standard of frontline and circulation support in person, by telephone and in writing to the Boroondara community. The role will also take every opportunity to promote the Library’s services, collections (print and digital) and events. 

The role will participate in and help deliver events at the Greythorn Library Lounge for all ages and organise visits to the Greythorn Library Lounge by local organisations such as schools and community groups. 

About you

We are seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual with a strong customer focus, to join our team committed to providing high quality library experiences to the Boroondara community.  

What are we looking for?

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • well developed and positive interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively with both staff and public;
  • experience working in a library, preferably in a public library;
  • experience in delivering events for all ages such as story times, book talks and library information sessions;
  • ability to train staff and members of the public in the use of information tools and technology;
  • ability to supervise, organise and direct other staff in a customer service and operational setting;
  • experience in frontline customer service; and
  • proven versatility and flexibility to manage time and plan work according to demand.

Qualifications and Employment Requirements

  • Applicants must have the right to work in Australia.
  • Tertiary qualification which confers eligibility for professional membership of the Australian Library and Information Association and practical work experience.
  • High level computing skills including the use of desktop and tablet computers, Microsoft Office, web tools and social media.
  • Ability to lift, push or carry library resources around library buildings (subject to appropriate Occupational Health and Safety regulations).
  • Preferred applicants will be required to undergo a National Police Record Check and hold a valid Working with Children Clearance.
