About the Role
As member of the library leadership team this role has both a focus on leading the Collections Team to develop, deliver and maintain high quality digital and print collections and is responsible for library branch and facility management of 1-2 sites. To do this you will be responsible to:

  • Lead, motivate and develop the team to ensure a consistent and innovative approach to the development of collections for all age groups, and related collection services including interlibrary loans, home library service and local history.
  • Perform and lead branch leadership activities to ensure library-wide delivery of inclusive, accessible and responsive customer service, efficient and safe operations, well-presented and safely maintained facilities, and teamwork and communication.
  • Lead the review, development and implementation of an innovative and streamlined shelf ready approach for the management, ordering and cataloguing of print and digital library collections for all age groups.
  • Manage performance of direct reports and provide performance feedback, coaching and support and implement strategies to enable professional development. Develop and implement corrective strategies where employees are required to improve their performance
  • Undertake rostered front of house customer service shifts across Darebin Libraries’ branches including working one evening shift per week and a minimum of one rostered Saturday and Sunday shift in each 8-week cycle


Skills & Experience
The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate:

  • They have a recognised Degree or Graduate Diploma qualification in Library and Information Management, with relevant experience in a public library environment.
  • Role-model behaviour in teamwork, collaborative practice with a customer-centric values-driven approach to service, leading and motivating teams during times of change.
  • Experience in strategic collection management through analysis, planning, evaluation and reporting.
  • Budgetary, contract management and vendor liaison skills to ensure significant capital and operational collections expenditure are managed in accordance with procurement protocols and within budget targets
  • Knowledge and understanding the management of library facilities on a day-to-day basis and long-term planning.
  • A current Working with Children Card is essential.
