About the Opportunity
We’re looking for a Collections Development Officer to join the Library Services Team, reporting to the Library Collections Lead. This role is responsible for developing, maintaining, and promoting library collections across the Brighton and Glenelg branches, including acquisitions, inter‑library loans, and high‑level cataloguing. The role also contributes to the Library Learning and Operations Team to support effective and customer‑focused service delivery.
What You’ll Do:
- Develop and promote engaging library collections through targeted promotional materials, social media content and community outreach.
- Deliver a responsive, customer‑focused service by managing purchase requests, inter‑library loans and collections enquiries with autonomy and accuracy.
- Coordinate acquisitions, cataloguing, processing and maintenance of collections, ensuring records meet consortium and industry standards within agreed timeframes.
- Support daily library operations by assisting customers with technology, contributing to frontline services, analysing collection data and driving continuous improvement.
- Work collaboratively across teams and partners while actively participating in professional development, networking and performance review processes.
What We’re Looking For:
- Tertiary qualifications in library studies OR demonstrated experience in relevant library position for at least three years.
- Holds an unencumbered Australian driver’s licence.
- Demonstrated experience working in a public library or similar customer‑focused environment, with a strong understanding of the role public libraries play in the community.
- Sound knowledge of fiction and information resources across multiple formats, with strong attention to detail, numeracy and literacy skills.
- Proven experience in acquisitions, cataloguing and collection management, with working knowledge of industry standards such as MARC21, RDA, AACR2 and LCSH.
- Strong customer service and communication skills, with the ability to resolve enquiries, prioritise workloads, meet deadlines and adapt to changing demands.
- High level of digital capability, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, library management systems and corporate applications, with the ability to troubleshoot minor technology issues.
- A collaborative, self‑motivated approach, demonstrating sound judgement, continuous improvement mindset and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
