What we are looking for:

We are seeking an enthusiastic Library Officer to join us in the library team. As part of your role you will contribute towards providing the community with a comprehensive, up-to-date and accessible library service that enables members to fulfil their information, leisure, learning and cultural needs.

As the Mid-Western Region continues to grow and prosper at a steady rate, Council now employs over 400 staff members. This exciting opportunity is a full-time permanent position. 

The salary range being offered for this full-time position is $2,202.00 - $2,476.50 gross per fortnight plus superannuation which equates to an annual salary of $57,252 - $64,389 gross plus superannuation (dependent on skills, qualifications and experience).

Key Accountabilities:

  • Undertake rostered shifts on a regular basis at any branch of the Mid-Western Regional Council Library service.
  • Deliver high quality customer and information services by assisting members to access library resources, services, and programs, both in the library and online.
  • Assist and instruct members with use of library systems and technology, equipment, and facilities.
  • Undertake circulation operations across all branches including reservations, inter-branch requests, interlibrary-loans, overdue items, and shelving.
  • Assist with item processing such as labelling, covering, repair and maintenance.
  • Maintain item and membership records in the library management system and perform basic cataloguing as required.
  • Contribute to the delivery of programs and outreach activities as appropriate.
  • Support promotional and marketing activities and events and contribute to readers’ advisory initiatives.
  • Participate in team meetings to foster team collaboration, learning and knowledge sharing.
  • Assist with the training of casual staff, volunteers and work experience students as required.
  • Undertake other relevant duties and project work as directed in accordance with the employee’s range of skills, competence, training and/or experience.
  • Actively promote and demonstrate the core values and behavioral requirements of the Workplace Environment Statement.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Higher School Certificate and/or demonstrated equivalent experience
  • Working with Children Check.
  • Demonstrated literacy and numeracy skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of staff, customers, and vendors.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and commitment to delivering high quality customer service.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise workload and perform well under pressure.
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently with minimal supervision.
  • Physical ability to carry out tasks and duties required.
  • Capacity to work flexible hours at any branch of the Mid-Western Regional Council Library service, including evenings and weekends as per roster.
  • Understanding of workplace health and safety responsibilities and a commitment to attending relevant WHS training.
  • Class “C” Drivers Licence, with willingness to operate the Mobile Library on occasion.
  • Some experience with readers’ advisory and sourcing information with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Involvement in promotional activities and marketing initiatives.
