Team Leader Library Research and Community History

Georges River Council has an exciting opportunity for a Team Leader Library Research and Community History to join our team, based in Hurstville.

The research and Community History team is responsible for the delivery of a community history service for internal and external customers that is innovative, informative, and effective, and the management of the Local Studies collection and archive. 

About the Role

As a team leader within our Cultural Engagement & Library Services Business Unit, you will contribute to the efficient and effective operations of Georges River Libraries, delivering high-quality, customer-focused services, research, programs and collections. 

In this role you will combine your research and local studies expertise with your leadership skills to lead and mentor your team in the delivery of research services and the collection and preservation of the community history of the Georges River area. You will also work in partnership with other library teams, Council departments and community stakeholders to ensure open access to Local Studies collections and information resources.

This role is primarily based at Hurstville Library and will involve other locations as required.
What we Offer

  • Permanent, Full time - 70 hours per fortnight 
  • Full time salary from $87,770.80 - $101,695.64 per annum plus 11.5% superannuation (dependent on the skills, qualifications and relevant experience of the suitable candidate)

The successful candidate will have

  • Tertiary qualifications in Library and Information Science or equivalent.
  • Current Working with Children’s Check.
  • Current NSW Drivers Licence (Class C).
  • Demonstrated high level skills and experience in leading and providing research or local studies services in public libraries or equivalent organisations.
  • Demonstrated experience and proficient use of technology and digital resources, including library management systems, online databases and digitisation methods.
  • Demonstrated high level skills in content creation and collection management.
  • Strong commitment and proven ability to deliver a high quality, customer focused library service. 
  • Demonstrated analytical, time management, organisational, financial, project management and creative problem-solving skills. 
  • Demonstrated experience in supervising a team, including an ability to provide performance feedback, guide others through change and implement innovative approaches.
  • Highly developed oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, including effective negotiation, consultation and consensus building. 
  • Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office Suite as well as content management systems and technology in a public library or equivalent setting.

Desirable

  • Qualification, or specialisation, in History, Applied Research, Records and Archive Management
  •  Knowledge of the Georges River Local Government Area
  •  Experience working with a multicultural client base 
  •  Experience in conducting oral histories and public program
