A bit about the role

The Family and Local History Librarian will provide high quality family and local history services which meet the learning and recreational needs of the Wyndham community.  

Based at our Hoppers Crossing Library, this role will focus on the delivery of a range of programs for adults in person and online, including regular Family History Help sessions and Family History Groups, as well as ad hoc events such as partnership events, information sessions, and local history events. You will have a passion for family and local history, fostering lifelong learning, and for working in an all-inclusive community. This role also oversees the operations of the Family and Local History Room, related resources, as well as supervising Family and Local History Volunteers.

In addition to the duties above, you will be rostered for regular customer service shifts and regular weekend shifts are a requirement of this role. Ad-hoc adjustments to your work pattern will be required for events or programs, including some evening work. This position may require rotating to other branches in line with operational requirements.

The work pattern for this role is:

  • Permanent Part-time – 20 hours per week
  • Week One: Monday - Thursday: 9am - 3pm (1 hour meal break)
  • Week Two: Tuesday - Friday: 9am - 3pm (1 hour meal break)
  •  Regular Saturday morning work is required (approx. once a month)

What you’ll deliver

  • Ensure the successful and professional delivery of family and local history programs, services, training, and events that are based on the community’s needs and interests.
  • Effectively liaise with colleagues, community groups, key stakeholders and the wider community under the guidance of the Team Leader Adult Programs and Services
  • Develop and maintain partnerships that encourage family and local history research, collection development, and community engagement.
  • Have an understanding of marketing to promote the family and local history programs and services to the community in a variety of formats.
  • Recruit and supervise family and local history volunteers. 
  • Provide leadership to the library customer service team when rostered on desk.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and time management skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of family and local history resources
  • A clear understanding of library trends regarding the delivery of family and local history services.
  • Solid knowledge of new forms of media and information technology which can be used to enhance program delivery, marketing and partnerships.
  • Degree or Graduate Diploma in Information Management, History, Heritage Studies or relevant field, or equivalent with related relevant experience or lesser formal qualifications and substantial relevant related experience.
  • A positive, curious and flexible attitude. 
  • A current Working with Children’s Check is required.

THE POSITION:  Libraries and Museum is the interface between Council’s numerous regulatory, strategic and business units and its residents and customers. The unit aims to handle the majority of enquires without a need for referral to other staff. In doing so, the unit must have a working knowledge of all of Council’s business in order to allow Council staff to continue its daily work with minimal interruption.

The Customer Experience Team Leader is responsible to provide an efficient and effective library and information service to meet the needs of the community by managing the day-to-day operations of customer service of one of the libraries with a focus on creating a positive customer experience outcome and with the general direction and support from the Customer Experience Coordinator.

The Customer Experience Team Leader is responsible for functions within their library and supervises a team of skilled staff ensuring that customer applications and requests allow the organisation to undertake its core business, meet its legislative obligations as well as build corporate knowledge through various registers and databases.

ESSENTIAL:

  • Provide leadership to the Open Libraries’ Customer Experience team, and staff working in the library.
  • Make day-to-day decisions to ensure the smooth running of the library branch.
  • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working and customer relationships.
  • Forster a harmonious and professional team environment and contribute to the development of staff.
  • Perform customer service duties and provide professional reference and information services to library customers.
  • Participate in programs and projects that have a direct impact on Customers and Council business.

SALARY & EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:

  • Permanent full-time position, 70 hours per fortnight

  • Flexible working hours are available.

THE POSITION: Fairfield City Council is seeking a creative thinker, designer, and maker to lead Council’s Innovative Programs Team.

The Senior Innovative Programs Officer will establish new ways to build rapport with, and meaningfully engage our local communities in order to increase the profile of Fairfield City Open Libraries’ Innovative Programs, through a mixture of structured learning and creative play.

Our Innovative Programs team offers a mixture of taught, social, and self-driven program types to allow for different learning experiences to promote healthy, life-long learning habits through access to creative industries and artistic practice.

Students, technology enthusiasts, and creators can come together through a combination of programmed workshops and open sessions to advance their understanding of STEAM subjects, and general technological literacy.

Our goal has been to achieve regular, consistent, ongoing programs which promote both repetition and variety in subject matter. The objective is not about having to choose between quantity or quality, but prioritising access to Fairfield City Open Libraries’ modern digital creative technology hubs including:

  • Studio 2166: a film and recording studio built for digital creation and learning activities.
  • Lab.LX: a youth and adult focused experimental space for STEAM education. Through structured learning, creative recreation and the provision of advanced equipment, Lab.LX provides a conduit for young people and adults to engage with exciting aspects of STEAM.
  • Lab.LX STEAM: is a children focused space for STEAM education through structured learning and creative play and exploration.

ESSENTIAL: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching, Music and Sound Design, Creative Arts, Graphic Design, or similar, or experience in an aligned discipline, i.e., audio engineering, postproduction, sound design, mixing, and mastering.
  • Extensive experience in the development and delivery of digital programs to diverse groups
  • Experience in contributing and creating a positive and supportive work environment, with a high level of teamwork, supervision, and upskilling of staff with program development and delivery.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Current Class C Drivers Licence.

About the role

The successful applicant will contribute to an effective and efficient library service for the community of Penrith City Council through providing customer service duties at Penrith Central Library and other branch libraries as rostered. They will supervise the provision of Home Library Services to eligible residents within the City. They will plan, implement and promote the library’s programs and events held both within the library and outside the library. They will establish and build partnerships with stakeholders to deliver library programs and services for all adult customers. Essential criteria

  • Relevant degree qualifications with eligibility for associate membership of the Australian Library and Information Association, or equivalent

About the role

We are seeking a highly enthusiastic Library Assistant to join the Woollahra Libraries team on a permanent part-time basis. 

As a weekend Library Assistant, you will work collaboratively with a team of Library Customer Service staff who are responsible for providing a high standard of information and customer service to the community across all areas of our libraries.

The role of the Library Assistant is a diverse and exciting role in that no two days are ever the same! Some of your tasks will include responding to Customer enquiries, setting up new library memberships, providing tech help, assisting in the delivery of children's programs, supporting the Library Programs & Events team, and providing general assistance and library resources to our customers.

This position is 12 hours on weekends (6 hours on Saturday and 6 hours on Sunday), with the option for 2 x 6 hour positions split over the two days for the ideal candidate(s) 

About you

You will be a passionate and enthusiastic team member who demonstrates a high level of customer service and has a can-do attitude. Ideally, you will have previous experience working in a similar role or extensive customer service experience and will be confident with the use of a range of computer and technology systems. 

You will be a high achiever with: 

  • Completion of Higher School Certificate (HSC) or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated work experience in library operations or customer service.
  • An enthusiastic and engaging approach to providing excellent customer service.
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills.
  • Competency in all Microsoft Office applications including word, Excel, Outlook and Publisher.
  • Well-developed knowledge and skills in technology with the ability to assist customers in the use of such technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both as a team member and independently, with proven time management and organisational skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to learning and continuous self-improvement as well as a positive approach to change, flexibility and adaptability in the work environment.
  • Current Working with Children Check.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to EEO and WH&S principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake the physical requirements of the position as outlined in section Seven (7) of the position description.

About the Role

This role will provide public library cataloguing and collection services based at the Horsham headquarter branch, which supports four additional branches: Edenhope, Kaniva, Goroke and Harrow. The successful candidate will provide advice and support to the Library Officers about access and management of the collection, and engage all employees in the curation of the collection in response to patron recommendations, usage data and industry trends. The position also supports the accurate and timely processing of various accounts payable transactions including invoices and purchase orders, and is responsible for allocating and tracking the collections budget.

About You

A graduate diploma or degree in Librarianship or Information Management and eligibility for professional membership of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) is desirable. Knowledge of current collection management practices in a public library environment is also required.

Reporting directly to the Customer & Community Resources Manager, the focus of this position is to:

  • Develop, deliver, and evaluate technology, recreation and education programs for children and young adults.
  • Develop and implement a program of displays and events that reflect the interests of young people.
  • Develop and foster partnerships and networks with children and young adult agencies, community organisations and schools.
  • Raise awareness amongst children, young adults and their families, schools and community groups about resources and services available to them through the library service.
  • Assess, develop, and maintain collections appropriate for children and young adults.
  • Assist in developing a range of programs, events and activities for children and young adult library users.
  • Skills & Experience
  • Diploma of Library and Information Science or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with children and young adult groups or services.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and implementing programs for children and young adults.
  • Class C Driver’s Licence.
  • Current Working with Children Check.
  • Proof of Australian residency or citizenship, or authority to work in Australia (visa)
