About the position

The Library Assistant position will be responsible for contributing to the overall maintenance and development of Public Library services provided to the community.

This position will work under regular supervision.

  • The hourly rate for this position is $35.45 - $38.40 gross per hour plus casual loading and superannuation.

How to be successful in this position - Success Criteria

  1. Hold the mandatory qualification(s), training and/or experience, as outlined under the 'Success Criteria' in the Position Description.
  2. Sound computer literacy skills including the capacity to effectively use Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint applications, and ability to learn and demonstrate new technologies for digital literacy programs.
  3. Sound oral and written communication and numeracy skills and ability to plan and prioritise own work in order to meet deadlines.
  4. Excellent customer service skills with the ability to provide accurate timely advice in a helpful and supportive manner.
  5. Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver library programs for a range of age groups, including story time.

YPRL is currently seeking a temporary part-time Technician, Reading, Learning & Community presently located at Mill Park, Eltham & Ivanhoe Library and Cultural Hub, however, you may be required to work at any other YPRL sites when required.  This position contains Senior Officer in charge duties and Storytime.  

Our Technicians provide a high standard of service to Yarra Plenty Regional Library customers and to the wider community.  The ideal candidate will demonstrate a courteous and effective communication style, with the ability to interact with both children and their parents.  The successful incumbents will provide a high level of customer focus and will actively encourage enthusiasm for reading in children.  If you have knowledge and/or experience in assisting with or delivering programs or activities, we want to hear from you. 

About you: 

Our Technicians are responsible for: 

- Responding to a wide range of customer information and reference needs and requests by utilising branch collections, products and services.
- Provision of Readers Advisory services that demonstrate a good understanding of the process, combined with high level reading knowledge.
- Performing a range of library operations that support customers in a self-serve environment based on high level knowledge of library products and services, including circulation and collection maintenance duties.
- Maintaining a high level of customer focus by responding to customer needs, assisting with promotional activities, functions and displays, (including the coordination of book groups) and participating in the provision of Public Participation services to grow library membership and usage. 

 You will contribute to the planning and achievement of the branch and regional objectives through actively participating in planning and staff meetings by contributing to the role of the library as a place for reading, learning and community.

About You:
We are seeking an enthusiastic person who possesses:

  • A minimum three (3) years’ experience working in a public library service.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Library and Information Management or significant demonstrated experience and are eligible for Associate membership of the Australian Library and Information Association.
  • A current C Class Open Australian Drivers Licence. Ability to travel to other office locations in the region as reasonably required to deliver events, programs and engagement.
  • Blue Card from the Commission for Children, Young People and Child Guardian, or ability to obtain prior to commencement.
  • High level of interpersonal and customer service skills, with a proven ability to engage with people from a diverse range of communities and those with disability and special needs
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in maintaining a Library Management System, cataloguing, Copyright Law, Queensland Libraries Funding Agreements and Bibliographic Control;
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and write reports, including acquittals and grant submissions.

About the role

Council is currently seeking an enthusiastic & capable library professional to join our passionate library team to support, develop and implement outcomes-based programs that meet the diverse needs of the adult community within the City of Canada Bay, with a focus on older people and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities.

Key responsibilities:

  • Oversee the development and delivery of library programs for adults, older people and CALD community members, that support and celebrate diversity, encourage social connection and support a range of learning and recreational needs
  • Ensure continuous improvement in the development and delivery of adult programs that meet the needs of our diverse adult populations through community consultation and collaboration, program evaluation and knowledge of emerging trends in library practices
  • Connect, build, and maintain strong relationships with relevant key stakeholders, including community groups and organisations and staff across Council to best represent the City of Canada Bay’s diverse communities
  • Identify and recommend improvements to ensure excellence in customer experience, with a focus on the needs of older people and CALD community members using the library
  • Develop and implement effective promotional and marketing strategies, including a program of events, activities and displays relevant to older people and CALD communities
  • Collaborate with the Collections Librarian to manage collections for CALD communities and older people, including reviewing collection specifications for suppliers to ensure the library has well-rounded, targeted collections to meet the needs of the community
  • Supervise the Outreach Support Library Officer in the delivery of a contemporary and effective Home Library Service, including volunteer management
  • Participate in the service point roster system in the role of Senior Duty Officer as required, including evening and weekend work at designated service points, to ensure quality customer service to members and visitors
  • Carry out additional tasks within your skill set and related to library services, as assigned by the Manager.

About the person 

To be successful in this position, ideally you will have:

  • Proven ability to build successful partnerships with a range of stakeholders and collaborate in the development and delivery of outcomes-based programs for the community
  • Demonstrated experience in the supervision and leadership of staff
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing, promoting, delivering and evaluating effective and relevant library programs to encourage literacy, creativity and lifelong learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with customers and a proven commitment to delivering excellent customer service
  • Proven ability to identify priorities, meet deadlines, work quickly and accurately under pressure
  • Proven ability to work independently and exercise initiative in delivering improved services and programs for the community
  • TAFE Diploma qualifications in library and information studies or equivalent.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and demonstrated experience working with and providing services to CALD communities and older people in a community service or library environment.
  • Demonstrated experience developing programs and activities for target demographics
  • Working with Children Check clearance
  • Current ‘Class C’ Driver’s Licence

About the Role:

Liverpool Council’s Library and Museum Services operates six libraries, including the Internationally recognised Yellamundie, Library and Gallery, Finalist in the IFLA International Public Library of the year 2024. The service welcomes more than 600,000 in person visitors per year, and nearly 900,000 loans.

The Team Leader Library Customer Service ensures delivery of best practice customer service across our libraries.  Based at Yellamundie, the position is responsible for maintaining and communicating procedures, monitoring service standards and coordinating staff training to support customer service. The position also supports operations at Yellamundie and across the service, working with the Team Leader Branch Support on rostering and problem solving.

The successful applicant will have:

  • Completion of degree or post -graduate level library and Information Studies, conferring eligibility for professional membership of the Australian Library and Information Association
  • Current Class C Drivers Licence
  • Demonstrated experience in supervision and management of Library staff
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating and overseeing the delivery of front line library customer services Demonstrated experience in innovation and leadership of change management
  • Highly developed skills in training needs assessment, planning and delivery of staff development programs Excellent communication skills, including documentation of procedures
  • Negotiation skills and conflict resolution with ability to problem solve during difficult customer interactions Understanding of public library environment, and current library issues and practices.
