The Opportunity 

This position will see you play a key role in providing high quality customer service within the Library and Learning department. This position supports the community by assisting with general library services, including technology use, information inquiries, and day-to-day operations. 

Responsibilities

  • Provide a proactive and customer-focused approach to library service delivery.
  • Undertake customer service duties as rostered, including working at different library locations, to support the efficient operation of the library service.
  • Assist library customers with use of technology and equipment including computers, photocopiers, wireless internet access, online resources, eBooks, library apps and mobile devices.
  • Collaborating with staff to promote library services and maintain community notice boards.
  • Efficiently manage time and apply organisational skills to prioritise tasks in a busy customer service environment.
  • Maintain collection through regular shelf reading and shelving.
  • Deliver quality information services and refer queries to specialist staff or supervisor when necessary.

Skills & Experience

  • Satisfactory completion of a Year 12 qualification.
  • Demonstrated experience in customer service.
  • Experience working in public libraries is desirable.

About the Role

As a Library Collection Officer, you will play a key role in delivering an innovative and high-quality library service that enhances literacy, lifelong learning, and community engagement. You will support staff in promoting both physical and digital resources, ensuring collections remain relevant, accessible, and well-utilised. Additionally, you will contribute to cataloguing, collection maintenance, and reporting while assisting with service-wide projects that align with the library’s strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the acquisition, cataloguing, processing, and distribution of physical and digital collections, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Monitor and analyse collection usage statistics to inform purchasing and collection development decisions.
  • Support the development and implementation of innovative classification and processing systems to improve efficiency.
  • Provide training and mentoring to staff on library resources and collection management best practices.
  • Assist in identifying new collections, collection improvement projects, and emerging trends in library resources.
  • Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including library suppliers and consortium partners.
  • Contribute to service-wide projects aligned with the library’s community development objectives.
  • Provide frontline library customer service, including reader advisory and support for digital resources.

To be successful within this role you will possess:

  • A qualification in Library and Information Studies (ALIA-recognised) or at least 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong knowledge of collection management principles and library industry standards.
  • Proficiency in library management systems and digital resource platforms.
  • Excellent organisational and analytical skills with an eye for detail.
  • A passion for delivering high-quality library services that respond to community needs.

About the Opportunity

About the role

Located at the library and reporting to the Coordinator Library Services, the Librarian (Young People Services) will Initiate and undertake promotional activities that increase the usage of the City’s library services by young people, including provision of advice on accessing applicable services available to young people and the development of targeted library collections.

This role will be responsible for:

  • Actively liaising with schools and relevant community groups on promoting and initiating library services and events available to young people
  • Undertake selection of library materials for the Junior and Young Adult collections
  • Developing and delivering the school holiday program, in addition to activities and events for young people throughout the year.
  • Engage in the review and application of library policies and procedures

About the successful candidate

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Tertiary qualification in Library and Information Studies or equivalent demonstrated experience
  • Eligible for associate membership of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA)
  • Current Working with Children Check.
  • Current ‘C’ Class Drivers licence.
  • Current Provide First Aid Certificate

This full-time permanent position offers a cash salary of $81,874 - $95,241 per annum, dependent on skills and experience, plus superannuation.

About the Position

Our Libraries team are looking to recruit a part-time Central Services Librarian for our Central Services team located at Karrinyup Library. The hours for this position are:

  • Wednesdays – 9.00am- 5.06pm
  • Thursdays – 9.00am- 5.06pm
  • Alternate Fridays – 9.00am- 5.06pm

This key role supports the Technical services Librarian and Central Services team, ensuring library services are run efficiently and effectively, meeting organizational and community objectives. This position assists the daily operations of Central Services and is responsible in providing specialized centralised technical services to Libraries and Community History.

Key Responsibilities

The duties of the Central Services Librarian will include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for cataloguing of library materials, statistical information, subscriptions and eResources. as directed by the Technical Services Librarian.
  • Assist the Technical Services Librarian in the overall management of Central Services staff, including branch procedures, library materials, and financial/budgetary resources to deliver technical services to Libraries and Community History.
  • Develops and delivers innovative ideas and best practice, cataloguing, reference and information services to the public as part of the cultural, educational, and informational functions of the Libraries and Community History.
  • This position assists with the ongoing functions and maintenance of the automated library management system as directed by the Technical Services Librarian in liaison with the Information Management & Technology Coordinator and the Librarian Strategic Projects
  • Provides input and feedback for Central Services staff to contribute effectively to the overall operations and ongoing development of the Libraries and Community History Service Team.

About You

The following qualifications and experience are essential, but if you have commenced your studies or are nearly finished, you could still be eligible for this role. Please apply, all applications will be considered.

  • Tertiary qualifications in Library and Information Science, demonstrating eligibility for Associate Membership of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA).
  • Strong commitment to customer service excellence, innovation, professional development, and best practice in library service delivery.
  • Advanced skills in communicating effectively, professionally, and accurately both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge and understanding of cataloguing standards and procedures.
  • Advanced skills in using Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, internet, and library specific technologies.
  • Previous experience using library management systems.

This permanent position is a Level 6 Inside Workforce Agreement position which attracts a salary from $85,751.72 gross pro rata per annum plus superannuation.
