The Arts, Events and Libraries Department at the City of Kingston is focused on the delivery of industry leading contemporary programs, activities, and events. Through innovation and continuous improvement, the department strives to provide high quality learning, recreational, social, and cultural outcomes for our community.
The City of Kingston Library Service operates eight public library branches, with major sites at Chelsea, Cheltenham, Parkdale and Westall, and minor sites at Clarinda, Dingley Village, Highett, and Patterson Lakes.
The role
We are seeking a permanent full time Children and Youth Services Librarian to join our team. You will work across all Kingston library locations, based at Cheltenham Library. Reporting to the Children & Youth Services Coordinator, your role is to:
- Plan, support and implement children and youth programs and events at our libraries.
- Assist with the requests for the youth collections, and collection maintenance.
- Foster relationships throughout the community by providing an outreach service to local schools, kindergartens, and maternal child health centres to create a love of reading in the community.
- Deliver innovative and customer focused service, including reference and circulation duties, consistent with Kingston Libraries vision, values, and objectives.
About you
We are looking for someone with:
- Proven experience providing positive leadership in a team-based environment
- A strong commitment to upholding Kingston’s values
- Demonstrated experience in delivering programs to 0–18-year-old customers and their parents/carers
- Knowledge of children’s literature, language, and literacy development, with experience managing library collections
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Enthusiasm and initiative to take ownership of the role and be an advocate for services and programs for children and youth
- Experience with Minecraft, Dungeons & Dragons and similar is highly regarded
- Bilingual welcome.
- Tertiary qualifications in Library and Information Management

This is a permanent full-time position at a Band 5 level. The position includes late shifts and regular weekend work.

The salary for this position starts at $76,900 (Band 5) per annum plus superannuation.
