About the role
As the Library Officer you are responsible for delivering exceptional customer service and actively provide service delivery by working as a team member and assisting Branch Team Leaders at various locations in Parramatta Libraries. 

Library Officer at Epping Branch Library: Permanent Full Time – 35hrs including weekend and evening shifts. You may be asked to work at any location in Parramatta Libraries.

Library Officer at Carlingford Branch Library: Permanent Part Time – 28hrs including weekend and evening shifts. You may be asked to work at any location in Parramatta Libraries

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Provide a proactive approach to providing customer service and taking personal responsibility to ensure that all customers receive a positive customer experience by providing consistent service based on a high level of knowledge of the library’s services, collections and programs, including acting as OIC as required. 
  • Proactively deliver core customer service competencies for Council as part of the Customer Experience Team, to provide memorable and exceptional experiences for customers – refer to Phive Customer Service Competencies Framework.
  • Ensure that each customer receives a positive customer experience in line with the Customer Service Charter and the Library’s Customer Care Standards.
  • Be responsible for providing day-to-day services to enhance community access to and enjoyment of the library.
  • Co-ordination of small projects
  • Support the Branch Librarian/ Team Leader by contribution to day-to-day operational requirements including but not limited to rostering, asset management, collections and programming.
  • Support and train staff in the effective operation of Library operations including digital resources and software to promote awareness and efficiency. 
  • Deliver high quality, customer focused services and programs to customers in a self-service environment within the framework of the library’s customer service model to maximise customer experience.
  • Provide specialised general and in-depth and reference, research, and referral services to assist customers in locating and obtaining information.

About You

We are looking for someone with: 

  • Completion of Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) accredited course or eligible membership of ALIA and relevant experience
  • Exceptional customer service, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
  • Current technology & marketing skills
  • Excellent communication verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to deliver presentations to small groups. 
  • Comprehensive understanding of the diverse community needs. 

What’s on offer
We are offering an attractive total remuneration from $75, 922 to $83,609 plus 11.5% Superannuation (pro-rata for part time).  

  • 1x Permanent Full-Time opportunity- 35hrs 
  • 1x Permanent Part-Time opportunity-28hrs

Both positions include weekend and evening shifts.

The Library Team Member is responsible for carrying out customer service duties efficiently and professionally, and to provide high quality customer service to both internal and external library customers. About the role

Wollongong City Libraries (WCL) is a dynamic service of Wollongong City Council. Our team plays a core role in delivering on Council’s commitment to creating a community that is informed, engaged, creative and connected. Join our team and support the creation of an Extraordinary Wollongong!

We provide a variety of services across our seven local library sites (Helensburgh, Thirroul, Corrimal, Wollongong, Warrawong, Dapto, Unanderra). This includes frontline customer service; programs that promote Community Connection, Learning and Inclusion; Local Studies services; and Collections and Cataloguing services. This opportunity will see you proactively lead a team of library staff to deliver these customer-centred library services.

You will work collaboratively across WCL; Library and Community Facilities Division and Council; as well as with local organisations and community partners. You will actively contribute to the development and achievement of Wollongong City Libraries’ strategic goals and pursue service quality and innovation.

This is a Permanent Full-time position on a 7-day roster. Weekend and evening work are required. Salary from $92,780.60 to $110,392.99 per annum, plus superannuation. (Salary package will be assessed based on skills, experience and qualifications). This position is initially based at Corrimal Library, but you may be required to work across any of our seven libraries across the Wollongong Local Government Area, dependent on operational requirements. This is a hands-on role; applicants must be physically capable of undertaking manual tasks relating to the role.

Under Part 2, Section 6 of the Child Protection (Working With Children) Act 2012, this position has been designated as requiring a paid Working With Children Check.

Reporting to the Coordinator Library Operations North, you will manage day-to-day operations of the team.

You will ensure the delivery of high-quality services for library operations, including: the delivery of customer-centred services and programs; recruitment, supervision and rostering of staff and volunteers; the implementation of relevant policies and procedures; and the achievement of performance objectives for your team.

About you

About the Role

As a team leader within our Cultural Engagement & Library Services Business Unit, you will lead the team responsible for engaging our diverse community with library services, outreach programs,
deliveries and the ongoing development of special collections.   

In this role you will develop, deliver and evaluate targeted collections and services that support the educational and recreational needs of the diverse community in the Georges River area. This role is responsible for promoting engagement with library resources and developing, delivering and evaluating training programs to support staff knowledge of the collection and methods to effectively engage library customers.

This role is primarily based at Hurstville Library and will involve other locations as required.

The successful candidate will have

  • Tertiary qualifications in Library and Information Science or equivalent
  • Current Working with Children Check
  • Current NSW Drivers Licence (Class C)
  • Demonstrated experience developing, planning and delivering high quality training programs to customers and staff
  • Demonstrated understanding of current public library collection trends
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing library collection development strategies including evaluation of the performance of collections and suppliers
  • Strong commitment and proven ability to deliver a high quality, customer focused library service
  • Demonstrated analytical, time management, organisational, financial, project management and creative problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated experience in supervising a team, including an ability to provide performance feedback, guide others through change and implement innovative approaches

The Role

About You

Essential Criteria

  • Degree qualification in Library and Information Services, or equivalent, recognised by Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA)
  • Minimum 3 year’s professional experience in a similar role in a public library
  • Experience in building and leading high performing teams
  • Experience with collection development in a public library
  • Experience and knowledge of contemporary library service issues and a sound working knowledge of governing legislation and frameworks

Remuneration

About You

To be considered for this position you will hold a Diploma in Library and Information Services or an equivalent Diploma level qualification with eligibility for professional membership to Australian Library and Information Association. You will need to hold a current class C drivers licence. 

You must hold, or be willing to obtain, the following:

  • Current and valid paid Working with Children Check (required prior to commencement)
  • First Aid Certificate (required within 12 months of commencement)
  • Justice of the Peace (required within 12 months of commencement)
