The Role

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Key criteria for you to be successful in this role:

Role overview

Based in a flourishing rural community, Kilkivan Library is conveniently located in Bligh Street, Kilkivan. With weekly storytime sessions, this family friendly library offers a range of services to both children and adults. Library staff possess the knowledge and experience to fulfil the information needs of the community. The Kilkivan Library operates:

Monday, Thursday and Friday: 9.00am - 12.00pm

Tuesday and Wednesday: 2.00pm - 5.00pm

Although the primary work location will be Kilkivan, you may be required to work at other library locations from time to time to meet Council requirements.

Library clients have free access to library services which include: borrowing items from across the Gympie Regional Libraries network, utilising the computers, wifi and a range of library programs and activities. Following training at Gympie and Kilkivan Libraries you will begin working at Kilkivan Library.

In this position you will be responsible for providing and promoting library services to the community delivery high quality, customer focused service and library programming and events that are responsive to community needs. This will be achieved by key responsibilities such as:

  • Create a welcoming experience by engaging with customers throughout the library, joining and inducting new library members, and promoting library services and collections.
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service excellence, including experience in dealing with difficult customers.
  • Provide information and technology services assistance and support for library customers.
  • Deliver programs to fulfil the community’s needs including children’s activities, technology sessions and community workshops.
  • Participate in reviews of branch library processes and procedures to ensure a continuous improvement focus on customer service.

 Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Exceptional customer service skills and knowledge of library services.
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to develop rapport and work effectively with a broad range of customers from diverse backgrounds.
  • Digital literacy skills in the use of Microsoft 365 applications, Library Management Systems, online library resources, ebooks, library apps, databases, and equipment such as computers, laptops, tablets and mobile devices.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of the library team, liaising with internal and external stakeholders in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Demonstrated public speaking and presentation skills, with the ability to deliver library programs as required.
  • Verbal and written skills in reporting and program planning and facilitation.
  • Ability to work autonomously.

About the Role

You will be responsible for the provision of quality customer service in the Lane Cove Libraries. Also required to assist with the installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of Library technologies, repair and maintenance of audiovisual items.

About You

The successful candidate will have:

  • Higher School Certificate or equivalent qualifications and experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to the provision of high quality customer service
  • Demonstrated knowledge of installation and maintenance of Library technologies
  • Ability to work evening and weekend shifts as required
  • Class C Drivers Licence

Salary range - Up to $80K per annum (incl super) dependent on the skills, qualifications and relevant experience of the suitable candidate.
