THE POSITION:

The Senior Library Assistant (Heritage) assists with the development and delivery of the Library and Museum & Gallery’s Heritage Services.

In this role the Senior Library Assistant (Heritage) also:

  • Assists in researching, developing, implementing, and evaluating best practice within the specialist Heritage field with the aim of providing, promoting, preserving and managing access to and use of the Library Heritage and Museum & Gallery’s Collections.
  • Is required to work in any of the libraries which customer service is a priority.
  • Provides customer service and business support services, managing requests and enquiries from Library customers and other stakeholders to contribute to the efficient provision of a core business service to Council’s customers.
  • Collaborates with business units, providing specialist operational support, developing relationships to enhance service delivery and managing key information or systems to facilitate the delivery of business objectives and meet user and customer needs.
  • Contributes to the delivery of key projects incorporating research, planning, delivery, evaluation and the management and/or co-ordination of Council systems, programs or events, liaising with internal or external stakeholders to achieve successful project, system or program outcomes.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, abilities and/or minimum qualifications necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.

ESSENTIAL: 

  1. Diploma or Certificate III or IV qualifications in Library and Information Services or industry/customer service experience in a relevant field
  2. Interpersonal and relationship building skills and experience to facilitate interactions with customers and stakeholders for the provision of service delivery
  3. Communication skills including oral, written and verbal skills for consulting, collaborating and interacting with customers and to provide professional responses to enquiries, requests bookings and complaints
  4. Skills and experience working within a customer service environment with the ability to achieve a high level of customer satisfaction combined with the ability to respond appropriately to customer requests and meet customer service requirements
  5. Organisation and time management skills combined with the ability to work unsupervised, handling competing priorities to adapt to fluctuating workloads and changing priorities
  6. Ability to apply initiative and problem solve on issues encountered in day-to-day activities and in the response to customers’ requests and issues to determine and implement an appropriate course of action
  7. Skills and experience in administration with the ability to manage and maintain information and library management systems such as customer records or computerised room and program bookings or other library related information
  8. Experience in developing and implementing procedures and guidelines related to service delivery may be required
  9. Experience in all MS Office applications (Excel, Word), including email and internet as well as databases and point of sales systems

Other Requirements

  1. This position will be required to work within a library roster, including evening and weekends

Desirable

  1. Knowledge of and experience in the Local Government environment
  2. Desirable – Current New South Wales Driver Licence or ability to obtain

SALARY & EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:

  1. Permanent part-time position, 42 hours per fortnight (Monday-Wednesday)
  2. This position is a Grade 3, salary range is $66,443 p.a. (pro-rata) with progression to $74,807 p.a. (pro-rata) on demonstrated competencies, with performance progression to $ 77,831 p.a. (pro-rata).

About This Role:

We are seeking a Children’s Librarian who is a champion of early literacy, passionate about engaging with children and their carers and instilling lifelong learning from birth. This is a senior role within the Outreach & Programs team and will lead and facilitate innovative children’s programs that respond to and meet community needs.

With a focus on early childhood and primary school aged children, the Children’s Programs Librarian will drive improvements in developing, implementing, delivering, evaluating and reporting on children’s programs and partnerships.

The position is based at the newly opened Yellamundie Library and is required to provide face-to-face customer services across the library and its branches, as well as outreach events. This position also requires one evening shift per week and one weekend shift in a 6-week roster.

About You:

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Specialised knowledge in Children’s Programs, including developing, training and delivering programs.
  • Passion for children’s literature, language and literacy development with ability to implement into children’s programs
  • Team building, leadership and development skills, including staff training
  • Strong understanding of public library environments including the roles, development and trends of public libraries.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects within a set budget and timeframe
  • Completion of degree or post graduate-level Library and Information Studies, conferring eligibility for associate membership of the Australian Library and Information Association. Or relevant tertiary qualifications in a related discipline

About the Role:

The Community Learning Officer will play a key role in the implementation of the Brimbank Lifelong Learning Strategy 2024 - 2029. Supporting and fostering a wide range of strategic partnerships with Council, government, community, education providers and business to implement the strategy. The role sits within the Library Unit and reports to the Learning and Partnership Coordinator.
You will:

  • Plan and implement an annual festival that supports learning outcomes
  • Drive and facilitate the implementation of the Brimbank Lifelong Learning Strategy
  • Monitor progress against the strategy action points, providing updates to internal and external stakeholders
  • Establish and develop partnerships with both internal and external groups, creating a forum for community consultation and engagement
  • Identify and disseminate positive stories and share content to promote community learning across a diverse range of communication channels
  • Prepare comprehensive reports, statistics, briefings and presentations surrounding the implementation

To be considered you will have:

  • Specialist experience in different lifelong learning and education principles
  • Tertiary qualification in education, community development, librarianship or similar relevant field

A bit about the role

The position of Point Cook Library Coordinator is an exciting leadership role, responsible for the provision of a broad range of high-quality library services to the community. Point Cook Library is located in one of Wyndham’s Community Learning Centres, which also houses kinder, maternal and child health services, and a community centre. Your positive and professional approach will see you successfully lead the Point Cook Team and the operations of the library branch, work collaboratively with these co-located services, and ensure the delivery of quality frontline services in line with library policies and procedures.

This position leads a team of 20 staff on a day-to-day basis and is responsible for the rostering and operational management of the branch. You will have 11 direct reports comprising Library Customer Service Officers and Library Program Support Officers, and your supportive leadership will see you lead the team to successfully meet and achieve library service goals and objectives. Point Cook Library runs a number of community programs each day, and you will work closely with your colleagues in the Library Leadership Team to ensure the successful implementation of the programs timetable each term.

Working closely with other members of Library Operations Group, you will have an opportunity to work collaboratively  to improve library processes and services across Wyndham Libraries covering a range of areas including customer service, branch collections, incident management, and staff professional development. You will prioritise health and safety, being actively involved in identifying, monitoring and responding to hazards and incidents that occur in the branch, and liaising with other teams in Council as needed to address and resolve any safety concerns.

Point Cook Library is a busy, dynamic environment, and your ability to problem solve on the fly and respond thoughtfully to challenging situations will be essential.

  • Effective management of the branch roster, budget and operations at one of Wyndham’s busiest libraries.

Key aspects of these roles include:

  • Delivering regular customer service shifts in our libraries and outreach services to local childcare, kindergarten and education centres in the City of Yarra.
  • Contributing to the delivery of partnership programs and outreach activities designed to encourage community engagement with the library service in alternative service points.

About the team
The Bassendean Memorial Library is an important community and cultural hub where people can meet and connect and enjoy a variety of programs and services. Our Library team help our community and proudly deliver programs focusing on literacy, lifelong learning and recreational needs of the community. 

About the role
The role will give the successful applicant an opportunity to:

  • Meet the needs of the local community through the effective and efficient management and development of contemporary, relevant and quality library services.
     
  • Oversee the Library and Information Services policies, programs and plans to support the educational, literacy, information, cultural and recreational needs of the community in line with agreed service level targets and budget.
     
  • Manage and develop the library’s digital, print and local history collections using best practice and ensuring the Town’s collections are relevant, accessible and curated in accordance with relevant standards, policies and procedures.

About you

The successful candidate will have:

  • Degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent experience and eligible for Associate Membership in the Australian Library and Information Association.
  • Demonstrated experience in library management and understanding of current issues and trends in the library profession.
  • Well demonstrated people leadership abilities to manage the team to achieve high productivity and deliver services in line with organisational values, standards and policies.
  • Current Working with Children Check (to be renewed every three years).

Salary and Benefits
This permanent, full-time position attracts an annual salary up to $98,490 per annum plus superannuation.

The Town also offers up to 4% additional superannuation (conditions apply), 17.5% leave loading, free parking, ongoing training and professional development, and up to two additional leave days per calendar year.

Working Hours
This is a permanent full-time role, 76 hours a fortnight, Monday to Friday. Flexibility options such as variable start/finish times are options and may be negotiated for this role.
