Essential:

  • University level qualifications (Degree or Graduate Diploma) in Library and Information Science or equivalent, and eligibility for professional membership of ALIA
  • Proven ability to develop and coordinate programs for young people with demonstrated knowledge of syllabus requirements and young people’s development
  • Proven ability to engage with all library customers and communicate effectively to provide high quality customer service
  • Proven experience using technologies including web content and social networking technologies
  • Current high level digital literacy skills, with the confidence to support customers with diverse technology including online and virtual collections and services, across multiple devices, platforms, apps and software
  • General knowledge of library policies, practices, relevant legislation, and current trends in libraries
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively organise and prioritise workloads
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment including new or emerging technologies
  • Demonstrated ability to apply EEO and WHS
  • Current Drivers Licence and Working with Children Check

Desirable:

  • Experience delivering youth services in public libraries

About the Role

We have a rare and exciting opportunity to join City of Ryde Libraries as the Team Leader – West Ryde Library. This is your chance to bring your leadership skills to this unique and recently refurbished library which also houses STEM installations and is located in a busy shopping and transport precinct. West Ryde Library also houses an external Book Locker for collecting reserved items and a Library of Things and hosts a comprehensive range of programs throughout its seven day operation.

The purpose of this role is to deliver a consistent and responsive library service that meets the community’s needs and to provide leadership and operational management of the branch library. As a senior member of the library service you will contribute to the development and delivery of service improvements and to the achievements of the Library Strategic Plan.

The position is full time, working Monday to Friday including evening and rostered weekend work. Library staff are required to wear a uniform which will be provided.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Support the Library Management Team by providing leadership and guidance with relation to people management processes including recruitment, staff development and performance improvement.
  • Lead and supervise the lending services function of the library and co-ordinate the rostering of staff within teams and/or in other teams as required.
  • Establish, foster and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Manage the service desk and customer experience to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction and seek assistance from specialist library staff as required.
  • Contribute to the senior library management team to improve service delivery by maintaining an awareness of current trends in public libraries and contributing to the strategic direction of the library service.
  • Proactively identify and meet community needs, ensuring that the collection, services and programs target current and emerging needs particularly in the area of STEM education and technology.


Essential Requirements

  • Degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent as recognised by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) and/or a degree level qualification in a related area with significant public library experience.
  • Current Working with Children check
  • Class C Drivers Licence
  • Experience in the delivery of a high level public library and information service in a cross cultural customer service environment.
  • Proven people management and supervisory experience (minimum 2 years) in a public library or similar customer focussed environment, including the supervision and performance management of staff.
  • Proven high level communication and interpersonal skills including report writing, procedure development, problem solving, negotiation and effective complaints handling skills and experience.
  • Experience in process improvement and leading/implementing change.
  • Understanding of current issues and trends in the library industry.
  • Knowledge of EEO principles, Privacy and Information Act.

Your commencing annual salary will range from $93,526.74 to $104,932.44 pa + Superannuation, dependent on your experience and qualifications.

About you:

  • You hold a Diploma in Library and Information Science (or equivalent) and have experience supporting the delivery of programs that encourage lifelong learning, social inclusion and recreation.
  • You’re confident working with a diverse community of young people and have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • You value inclusion and have a strong understanding of library services for diverse groups of young people, informed by awareness of their evolving needs, current trends and a familiarity with young adult fiction.

 The Role

In this leadership role, you will oversee the delivery of high-quality local history services, provide operational support to the team, and lead projects to enable the preservation and accessibility of the archive.

In this role you will:

  • Lead and support the Local History team in the delivery of services and projects.
  • Support and mentor staff to build capability and foster a collaborative team culture.
  • Lead digitisation and archival projects to preserve and enable easy access to, the Local History collection.

 What you’ll bring

  • University level qualification in Library and Information Studies, Museum and Archives or other relevant area.
  • Demonstrated experience in digitising and cataloguing a local history collection including experience in working with digital data, and metadata within a repository or data system context.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in local history / archives, project management and staff supervision, with proven capacity to lead and develop staff.
  • Strong technical skills and a high level of digital literacy.
  • Proven ability to embrace change and engage, lead and inspire others to achieve outcomes for the benefit of the organisation and community.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills with strong conflict resolution skills and the ability to deal with difficult customers.
  • Demonstrated organisational and time management skills with a flexible approach to work and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with a wide range of individuals and organisations.

Job Description

Library Programs Officer - Fixed Term

About the Role

In this fixed-term role until 27 October 2026, you’ll design and deliver engaging library programs for children, youth, adults, and seniors, including coordinating School Holiday activities. You’ll prepare resources, support promotion, and monitor program outcomes. As a key front-line team member, you’ll provide professional customer service, assist with digital technologies and eResources, and help maintain library collections. You’ll also respond to a range of customer needs with empathy and professionalism. This role offers a mix of creativity, community engagement, and hands-on service delivery, including occasional evening and weekend work.

About you

This role focuses on delivering engaging programs for children and adults while providing excellent, community-focused library services. You’ll connect with people of all ages and backgrounds, offering support with empathy and respect. Working both independently and as part of a team, you’ll use your communication skills and confidence with technology to assist customers and adapt to new systems. A proactive approach, willingness to learn, and commitment to professional development are essential.

Relevant certifications, including a current NT driver’s licence, Ochre Card, and First Aid Certificate, are required.
