About the Role

The Library Resources Support Officer sits within the Library Resources Team and works in all areas of the library providing front-line customer service and is passionate about giving back to the community. This role is rostered to work at our five branch locations and the successful applicant will need to display outstanding flexibility as well as the ability to develop strong team relationships across the service. On occasion, you will also be required to work as a shift supervisor at a branch or provide support to library collection services and interlibrary loans.

About You

You are a dedicated an enthusiastic professional with a passion for delivering exceptional library services. Your approach to library services is customer-centric, consistently delivering high-level service with warmth and efficiency. 

In addition, you will also have:

  • Exceptional customer service skills and enthusiasm to help our diverse public library users from finding books to troubleshooting technology
  • Exceptional teamwork skills with proven experience to also work independently
  • Self-motivated with proven ability to learn new processes and systems quickly
  • Experience in a vibrant customer service role and ability to prioritise tasks
  • Work at the various libraries within City of Ryde and different shifts as required
  • Experience in leading a team in a supervisory role on rostered shifts
  • Experience in collections support and interlibrary loans desirable
  • Completion of a library qualification or working experience in a library environment

Please note: This is a Child Related position and employment is subject to verification of the Working With Children Check status. The cost of obtaining a WWC clearance is at the applicant's expense.

Your commencing annual salary will range from $66,841 to $76,168 + Superannuation, dependent on your experience and qualifications.

Reporting to the Senior Coordinator Library Programs & Engagement, this position is responsible for coordinating a broad range of inclusive library programs, events and outreach activities. The Programs Officer will lead the development, delivery and promotion of programs that engage a broad audience, and which support the literacy, creativity and lifelong learning needs of Darwin's diverse community. The Programs Officer will be responsible but not limited to:-

  • Coordinate and manage a broad range of programs, events and activities delivered both in the libraries or as outreach in the community, including planning, promotion, developing and evaluation
  • Engage key groups within the community, including Seniors, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse
  • Develop content in collaboration with City of Darwin's Marketing, Communications and Engagement Team, including: monthly library e-newsletter; website; social media; posters and flyers

To be successful in this position you need to have:

  • Diploma in Library Studies, Marketing & Communication, Event Management or equivalent qualifications and/or a minimum of two (2) years' experience delivering programs and events for a community-based organisation
  • Possession of a Class C Drivers Licence
  • Current NT Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card)
  • Ability to obtain a police check

We have an exciting opportunity for an innovative and motivated professional with strong STEM programming and supervision skills to play a key role in the development, promotion, and delivery of STEM programming at West Ryde library. In this newly created role, you will use your experience to develop a range of STEM based programs for West Ryde Library with a focus on emerging technologies and digital literacy.

As a senior member of the team this role also provides support to the Team Leader in regard to supervising staff as well as a variety of tasks which range from assisting customers with library technology, Reader Advisory services, leading children’s activities such as rhyme-time and after school activities and maintaining a safe, neat, welcoming library. 

About You

You will have exceptional customer service skills and enthusiasm to help our diverse range of public library users whether it be finding a book or troubleshooting technology as well as experience in creating and presenting STEM programs. 

In addition, you will also have:

  • Diploma of Library and Information Services or equivalent library technician qualification or university degree in a relevant discipline with additional TAFE qualification in Library and Information Services recognised by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA)
  • Experience in providing a range of STEM and digital literacy programs for libraries or related institutions
  • Experience in supervising staff
  • Exceptional teamwork skills with proven experience to also work independently
  • Adaptable approach to tasks with the ability to prioritise and multi-task
  • Experience in conducting early literacy activities and programs for children
  • An enthusiasm for technology and the ability to assist customers in the use of library technologies such as printing, scanning, use of online resources and apps

We are seeking a permanent full time Children and Youth Services Librarian to join our team. You will work across all Kingston library locations, based at Cheltenham Library. Reporting to the Children & Youth Services Coordinator, your role is to:

  • Plan, support and implement children and youth programs and events at our libraries.
  • Assist with the requests for the youth collections, and collection maintenance.
  • Foster relationships throughout the community by providing an outreach service to local schools, kindergartens, and maternal child health centres to create a love of reading in the community.
  • Deliver innovative and customer focused service, including reference and circulation duties, consistent with Kingston Libraries vision, values, and objectives.

About you

We are looking for someone with:

  • Proven experience providing positive leadership in a team-based environment
  • A strong commitment to upholding Kingston’s values
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering programs to 0–18-year-old customers and their parents/carers
  • Knowledge of children’s literature, language, and literacy development, with experience managing library collections
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Enthusiasm and initiative to take ownership of the role and be an advocate for services and programs for children and youth
  • Experience with Minecraft, Dungeons & Dragons and similar is highly regarded
  • Bilingual welcome.

Your role is to:

  • Represent Kingston Libraries as the face of our library service and perform duties in a manner that exceeds expectations of both customers and the team
  • Undertake rostered customer service shifts in a team environment across all library sites, including weekdays, weekends and evenings, performing a range of tasks that support customers and our community
  • Actively promote services, events and programs that support literacy and digital literacy development across the Library Service
  • Actively educate users on new and existing library facilities, collections, resources, technology and equipment
  • Undertake a range of administrative tasks to ensure that the libraries operate efficiently

About you

You will have:

  • Ability to demonstrate the City of Kingston’s values of Future Orientated, Accountable, Dynamic, Expert, Community and Celebration
  • Demonstrated excellent customer service skills – experience of customer service in a library environment preferred
  • Knowledge and experience of working in a team
  • Demonstrated skills in supporting digital literacy in the community
  • A keen interest and curiosity in new technologies and their applications in libraries
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • A positive, enthusiastic, and resilient attitude for working with diverse customers and staff in a front-facing team environment

What we can offer

We have three permanent part-time library officer positions available. 1 x 28hr/4 days per week, and 2 x 14hr/2 days per week. These positions will work across various library sites as rostered, including weekdays, evenings, and weekends.

About your new role

We're currently seeking dedicated individuals for both permanent full-time and part-time positions. Successful candidates will need to demonstrate flexibility, as they may be required to work across the entire Library Service in addition to working weekends as operational needs dictate.

  • Central Region Libraries – Southport, Broadbeach, and Nerang Libraries.
  • North Region Libraries – Helensvale, Runaway Bay, Ormeau, and Upper Coomera Libraries
  • Southern Region Libraries – Burleigh Heads, Burleigh Waters, Coolangatta, Elanora, and Robina Libraries.

About our opportunity

We have multiple opportunities available for experienced early literacy practitioners to join our First 5 Forever program team on a contracted part time basis.

In the role of First 5 Forever Outreach Officer, you will support the First 5 Forever Program Leader and the library services team to deliver early literacy outreach events across the region, achieving optimal reach in the community. This will involve a very hands-on approach and manual tasks where you will be on your feet and on the move very regularly.

In your duties, you will regularly deliver Storytime, baby rhyme time and playtime sessions in outdoor spaces across the region. You will compile training packages and develop outreach delivery schedules in liaison with library branch teams. You will also collect and compile data, including feedback and statistics for reporting to the State Library of Qld and Council in addition to work instructions and procedures for supporting and delivering early literacy service programs.

The position will be contracted for 20 hours per week on a 2-year contract (until June 2026) with weekend work being an essential requirement of the role ( click here to view roster).

About you

You are a passionate and dedicated early childhood or library practitioner, with experience undertaking a similar hands-on program delivery role related to early childhood literacy. You will be a respectful and proactive individual, with experience training and developing team members.

To ensure you can successfully undertake the duties of the role, a high attention to detail and developed computer, project and event management skills will be essential. You will be eligible for Working with Children Check (Blue Card) and hold a current driver’s licence.

Due to the nature of the work environment and outreach required, applicants with experience working within a library service and/or can demonstrate an understanding or experience supporting disadvantaged or vulnerable families will be highly desired.

You must be available to work weekends, with a minimum availability of 20 hours per week.
