The Opportunity

We have an opportunity for a motivated individual to support the public and library staff in accessing, maintaining library technology and systems across the library service ensuring a high level of technology services are provided in line with Library Service Strategic Plan. 

As a Systems and Technology Officer, you will work closely with BVSC's IT Area and library application suppliers to resolve complex technical issues and enhance performance. You will supervise the day-to-day activities, delivery and performance of the Library Service team at 2 branch locations

About You

We are seeking an individual who hold a degree-level qualification in library services, information management or related field, and has demonstrated high-level written and oral communication skills with the ability to relate to internal and external stakeholders.

You will have the following skills and experience;

  • Demonstrated experience in the development, delivery and management of ICT functions and services in a Library Service, including the ability to facilitate the use and understanding of technology for library users and staff.
  • Experience in leading teams of people.
  • Demonstrated high-level written and oral communication skills with the ability to relate to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Additional skills, knowledge and qualifications that may be applicable to this position, such as recent experience working in local government, or other specialist training or work experience.

Benefits

This is a permanent part time position working 30 hours per week.

The total remuneration package for this position commences at $96,438.13 gross per annum (paid pro-rata), comprising of:

  • $1,663.30* per week base salary
  • $191.28* per week superannuation (calculated at 11.5%)

*Remuneration is paid pro-rata for part-time employees.

About the Role

This role is primarily based at Clive James Library and Service Centre, Kogarah and will involve other locations as required. 

This position will participate in the Library Roster with ordinary hours worked between 8.00 am to 9.00 pm, Monday to Sunday in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award 2023.

About the Role

As a Coordinator within our Cultural Engagement & Library Services Business Unit, you will provide leadership and management of the team responsible for library collection management, preservation of community history, research, and library systems and technology.

The role is part of the leadership team which is responsible for the delivery of effective, efficient, inclusive and innovative services that fulfill the strategic priorities of the Cultural Engagement and Library Services business unit.

In this role you will lead and develop a cohesive team that deliver exceptional services.  You will deliver physical and digital collections to reflect the many aspects of the Georges River region and deliver services that support the community and the request for information. The Coordinator Library Operations will provide detailed updates, research, business cases, grant submissions, award applications, presentations and reports to support Council decision making as well as the implementation and development of projects, policies and strategies for the Cultural Engagement and Library Services business unit.

This role is primarily based at Hurstville Library and will involve other locations as required.

This position will participate in the Library Roster with ordinary hours worked between 8.00 am to 9.00 pm, Monday to Sunday in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award 2023.

The successful candidate will have

  • Tertiary qualifications in Library and Information Science or equivalent
  • Current Working with Children Check
  • Current NSW Drivers Licence (Class C)
  • Demonstrated experience supervising the delivery of customer focused services in a library or equivalent cultural organisation
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership, team building and staff development, including mentoring, performance management and change management
  • Demonstrated experience leading the implementation and management of content management systems and technology in a public library or equivalent setting
  • Demonstrated experience leading the implementation and management of contracts for the supply of collection materials and resources
  • Demonstrated experience leading research projects, including community history and local studies research
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and evaluating services that reflect and enhance the cultural, informational, recreational and educational needs of the community
  • Demonstrated experience developing business cases, grant submissions, award applications and presentations to support organisational decision making
  • Demonstrated high level oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, including report writing, effective negotiation, consultation and consensus building
  • Demonstrated financial management skills and experience managing an operational budget
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex projects and competing priorities, including an ability to work to deadlines
  • Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office Suite as well as content management systems and technology in a public library or equivalent setting

Desirable

  • Leadership experience in a public library
  • Experience leading projects with a diverse and multicultural client base
  • Leadership experience in local government
  • Ability to speak an identified community language such as Arabic, Cantonese, Mandarin, Greek
